Job description

Role Description The Behavioral Health Pharmacist is a full-time, on-site role based in Tampa, FL, responsible for providing advanced pharmacy services to patients receiving behavioral health care. Day-to-day tasks include verifying and dispensing medications, performing clinical medication reviews, and optimizing psychotropic regimens in collaboration with psychiatrists, nurses, and other members of the care team. The role involves monitoring for drug interactions and side effects, providing medication counseling and education to patients, and supporting safe medication-use policies within the hospital. The Behavioral Health Pharmacist also participates in interdisciplinary rounds, contributes to treatment planning, assists with formulary management, and supports compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Additional responsibilities may include precepting pharmacy learners, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and supporting the implementation of best practices in behavioral health pharmacotherapy.

Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution; completion of a PGY1 residency, preferably with behavioral health or psychiatric focus, is strongly preferred.
Current and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of Florida or eligibility for immediate licensure.
Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric and behavioral health pharmacotherapy, including psychotropic medication management, side-effect profiles, and monitoring parameters.
Experience working in a hospital or clinical setting with interdisciplinary teams, ideally within behavioral health or mental health services.
Strong communication and counseling skills to effectively educate patients, families, and clinical colleagues on medication use and safety.
Ability to interpret clinical guidelines, apply evidence-based practices, and utilize electronic health records and clinical decision-support tools.
Commitment to person-centered, culturally sensitive care and to maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical standards in behavioral health settings.
Participation in or willingness to engage in continuous professional development, specialty certification in psychiatric pharmacy (BCPP) is a plus.
