Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Permit Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service while issuing various City of Conroe related permits with substantial data entry. Fields questions and complaints from the public via telephone, email and in person; provides public with information and assistance in properly completing all forms necessary for the permitting process.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent with some college courses preferred and two years of experience in a building or planning department, with six months experience in computerized building permit applications processing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
ICBO Permit Technician certification or must obtain within one year of employment. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, familiarity with building plans, codes, ordinances and related terminology.
  • Knowledge of the processes and procedures associated with the building construction permitting process.
  • Skill in both written and oral communication.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply departmental policies and procedures related to the acceptance and review of permit applications.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including industry professionals, internal staff and the general public, as well as maintain composure under difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to complete tasks with multiple distractions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: fingering, lifting and speaking.
