How much do part time pct jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time pct in Wisconsin is $18.67, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.53 and $20.38 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a part time patient care technician (PCT)?

Part-time Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are healthcare professionals who assist nurses and doctors in caring for patients, usually working less than 40 hours per week. Their responsibilities often include monitoring vital signs, helping patients with daily activities, collecting samples, and maintaining a clean environment. Working part-time allows PCTs flexibility in their schedules, making it an ideal option for students or those with other commitments. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team, providing hands-on support to ensure patients' comfort and well-being.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a part time patient care technician (PCT)?

To thrive as a Part Time Patient Care Technician, you need foundational knowledge of basic patient care, vital signs monitoring, and often a high school diploma or equivalent with completion of a PCT training program or certification (such as CNA). Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, blood pressure monitors, and other bedside equipment is typically required. Compassion, strong communication, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for supporting patients and collaborating with healthcare staff. These competencies ensure safe, effective patient care and contribute to a positive healthcare environment.

What are common challenges faced by part time patient care technicians (PCTs), and how can they be managed?

Part-time PCTs often balance varying shift schedules and must quickly adapt to different patient needs with limited continuity between shifts. This can make building rapport with patients and staying updated on their care plans more challenging compared to full-time staff. To manage these challenges, effective communication with the healthcare team and thorough shift handovers are essential. Additionally, staying organized and proactive about learning facility protocols can help PCTs deliver consistent, high-quality care despite a part-time schedule.

What is the difference between Part Time Pct vs Full Time Pct?

Part Time Pct roles involve fewer hours and are suitable for those seeking flexible schedules, while Full Time Pct positions require standard full-time hours. Both roles typically require similar certifications and work in similar healthcare settings, but differ mainly in hours worked per week.

Can you be a part time PCT with no experience?

Becoming a part-time Patient Care Technician (PCT) typically requires some healthcare training or certification, but many employers offer on-the-job training for entry-level candidates with no prior experience. Having basic skills in patient care, communication, and a willingness to learn can help you qualify for such roles, though certification programs like CPR may be required or preferred.

How much do part-time patient care technicians make?

Part-time patient care technicians typically earn between $12 and $20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and healthcare facility. Their pay may increase with certifications such as CPR or phlebotomy and experience working in hospital or clinical settings.
