USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app

Laboratory Technician position for theErnakovichandSoilBioMELab groupfor 10hrs/week.Technicianwill analyzemicrobialcommunitiesand biogeochemicalproperties of permafrostsoil samplesunder supervision of lab manager(s) and research staff.Technicianwill alsoassistwith lab maintenance taskssuch as chemical inventory management, dishwashing, and hazardous waste disposal.Training will be provided for lab specific protocols forDNA Extraction,PCR amplification,enzyme assays,foreign soilprotocolsand biogeochemicalsoilcharacterization.

Job Duties

Microbial Soil Assays(60%)

  • DNA Extraction

  • PCR and Gel Electrophoresis

  • Enzyme Assays

Lab Maintenance (30%)

  • Cleaning Dishing

  • Autoclavinglabware and foreign soil waste

  • Updating chemical inventory and properly disposing of chemical waste

Keeping lab notebook(10%)

  • Keep complete and organized lab notebook

  • Communicateresults and issues promptly and clearlywith lab manager/research staff

  • Update lab protocols as needed

Other Expectations:

Commit to consistent work schedule, arrive on time, and communicate needed schedule changes 24 working hours in advance.
