General Description
The Paraprofessional assists teachers and school staff in providing instructional, behavioral, and clerical support to help students achieve academic and social success. The paraprofessional works under the supervision of a licensed teacher and supports the educational program by assisting with classroom activities, student supervision, instructional interventions, and daily student needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist teachers with instructional activities in individual, small group, and classroom settings.
- Provide academic support and reinforcement of teacher-directed lessons and interventions.
- Supervise students in classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, playgrounds, buses, and other school settings as assigned.
- Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, copying, filing, and maintaining records.
- Support students with behavioral, emotional, social, and/or physical needs as directed.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation.
- Assist students with assignments, technology, and classroom activities.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and orderly learning environment.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, administrators, students, parents, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records in accordance with FERPA and school division policies.
- Assist with arrival, dismissal, lunch duty, and other assigned supervisory duties.
- Participate in training programs, staff meetings, and professional development activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

- Ability to work effectively with children, particularly those with disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions from supervising staff.
- Basic knowledge of instructional strategies and behavior management.
- Commitment to maintaining student dignity, respect, and inclusion.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and the public.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree, college coursework, or experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
Work Environment
- Classroom and campus settings.
- May require lifting, positioning, or physically assisting students with mobility or personal care needs.
- May involve exposure to bodily fluids when assisting with personal care.
Reports to: Building Administrator
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status: Non -Exempt
Months/Days/Hours: 10 months, Mon-Fri, Up to 29 hours per week
Salary Scale: Paraprofessional
Benefits: Standard Employee Benefit
Pay: Depending on experience
