Under the direction of a Registered Nurse in the assigned area of Perioperative Services, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the health care team within established unit specific standards. As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services. The PCA II role is expected to take an assignment in all areas of Perioperative services and change areas as needed.
Job Description
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities within the established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
2. Assists in room preparation and turnover of patient unit to maintain patient flow and room readiness, following safety standards.
3. Transports patients, equipment, supplies, specimens, or blood to a variety of areas following safety standards.
4. Maintains peripheral corridors in accordance with guidelines of fire and safety codes.
5. Tags broken equipment and transports to repair areas as necessary
Operating Room
• Assists in the preparation of Operating Rooms and other perioperative areas.
• Understands sterile techniques and is able to open sterile packages as directed by an RN.
• Assists with operative surgical skin preps and/or assists with maintenance of the patients position while the surgical area is being prepped.
Picks equipment and supplies for patient procedures as assigned.
Performs basic maintenance tasks such as changing compressed gas cylinders.
SACU:
Assists with admission and discharge of patients and assists with patient nutrition and patient ambulation as directed.
Assists patients with undressing/dressing and care of their belongings.
Assists Registered Nurse with vital signs and general assessment through observation of patients general conditions.
Performs patient testing such as EKG's, blood glucose monitoring and pregnancy tests.
• Performs pre-operative skin preparation, such as hair clipping and skin washing.
• Provides skilled patient care as trained and assigned.
• Assists with patient nutrition and patient ambulation as directed.
PACU:
• Assists with admission and discharge of patients.
• Assists Registered Nurse with vital signs and general assessment through observation of patients' general conditions.
• Assists with patient nutrition, ambulation, and activities of daily living
• Provides skilled patient care as trained and assigned

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Equivalent to high school education.
2. PCA or EMT certification.
3. Knowledge of basic Nursing Procedures.
4. Current BLS.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. One year of nursing procedure experience.
2. Knowledge of equipment and supplies related to perioperative care of patients.
3. Ability to take direction, set priorities, and organize work assignments.
4. Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English.
5. Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.
Preferred:
1. Prior OR experience.
