Their duties include assessing vital signs, managing pain, providing education to patients and families, and responding to any complications that arise during the recovery process. Part-time PACU RNs typically have flexible schedules, working fewer hours than full-time staff, but must still maintain the same level of skill and certification.

Part-time PACU RNs often face challenges related to staying updated with unit protocols and maintaining continuity of care due to less frequent shifts. Additionally, adapting quickly to post-anesthesia patient needs and collaborating with multiple surgical teams can be demanding. To manage these challenges, regular communication with full-time staff, attending ongoing training sessions, and thorough handoff practices are essential. Being proactive in seeking updates and feedback also helps maintain high-quality patient care and smooth workflow integration.
