Position Overview:
The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) is a skilled, flexible professional responsible for delivering high-quality patient care across multiple hospital units and locations in alignment with their scope of practice. The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) must be adaptable and able to provide standardized nursing care across a minimum of two units or two locations and will be scheduled based on patient census and acuity.
The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, accreditation standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. As such, this performance evaluation is based on these standards. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Graduate from NLN School of nursing.
License:
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi.
Certifications:
All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. RNs working in the below specialty areas are required to complete and maintain certifications as listed:
Cath Lab - ACLS
Cardiac Rehab - ACLS
Congestive Heart Failure - ACLS
Cardiovascular Surgery - ACLS
Emergency Department - ACLS, PALS, TNCC
Intensive Care Units - ACLS
Labor & Delivery - ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
Medical Nursing - OB/GYN - PALS
Nursery - NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
Pediatrics - PALS
PACU/Recovery - ACLS, PALS
RNs have 12 months, from the date they begin working in the specialty area, to acquire the appropriate certification and 18 months to acquire TNCC certification for the Emergency Department.
Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of inpatient clinical experience required. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program.
Reports to:
Centralized Scheduling and Float Pool Director
Supervises:
LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians
Physical Demands:
Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.
Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.
Mental Demands:
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Special Demands:
Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
The Float Pool RN must be willing to work a minimum of two (2) hospital locations or two (2) service lines to include all units in that service line.
The part-time Float Pool RN will be scheduled to work one (1) weekend shift per pay period (defined as Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) and must work a minimum of one (1) major holiday and two (2) hard to staff shifts annually.
The full-time Float Pool RN will be scheduled to work at least two (2) weekend shifts per pay period (defined as Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) and must work a minimum of one (1) major holiday and two (2) hard to staff shifts or two (2) major holidays and one (1) hard to staff shift.
