Job description

PRN PRE-OP/PACU REGISTERED NURSE

The PRN PeriOp Registered Nurse will provide quality care to surgical patients via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and medication administration in the Ambulatory Surgery Center in Flowood.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgery
  • Perform safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period
  • Ensure operative and informed consents are signed and correct
  • Assess patients and take/record vital signs to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
  • Initiate IV’s and ensure patients are informed about the procedures
  • Document all findings in the patient’s chart
  • Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
  • Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physicians
  • Maintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences
  • Continued assessment of post-surgical patients to determine readiness to discharge
  • Educate the patient/family member on the procedure and follow-up care

Qualifications:

  • Active Registered Nursing License – licensed to work in MS
  • Must possess general clinical competency in acute patient care
  • Must demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters
  • Must demonstrate the ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative care
  • Nursing experience in a perioperative setting preferred
  • Documentation of current BLS certification (ACLS and PALS preferred)
