What is a part time packer?

Part time packers are employees who work less than full-time hours and are responsible for preparing goods for shipment or storage. Their main tasks include packing products into boxes, labeling packages, checking for damaged items, and sometimes assisting with inventory. This role is common in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities. Part time packers need to be detail-oriented and able to work efficiently, often in a fast-paced environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time packer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Packer, you need attention to detail, basic math skills, and physical stamina, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems, barcode scanners, and packaging equipment is typically required. Strong time management, reliability, and teamwork are valued soft skills in this role. These qualities ensure that products are accurately packed, orders are fulfilled efficiently, and overall warehouse operations run smoothly.

What are some common challenges faced by part time packers, and how can they be managed?

Part time packers often face challenges such as working in fast-paced environments, maintaining accuracy while meeting productivity targets, and standing for extended periods. To manage these challenges, it's helpful to develop strong organizational skills, take regular short breaks to reduce fatigue, and communicate openly with supervisors about workload or ergonomic concerns. Most companies provide training and safety equipment to support packers in performing their tasks efficiently and comfortably.

Job description

Job Description:

Title: Household Manager with Meal Prep Support

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T6X1V9

Employment Type: Part-time (15-20 hours/week)

Proposed Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: $25-28/hour based on experience

Requirements:

  • Able to maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Reliable transportation

Proposed Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday ~2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Flexibility for occasional extra hours based on family needs

About Our Family:

We are a warm and welcoming family with two energetic toddlers, ages 4 and 2, who are both in full-time daycare. Our family dynamic involves both parents working outside the home-one parent works full-time in an office, while the other works from home on Mondays and Fridays. We're a close-knit family that values our time together, and we're looking for a reliable partner who can help us keep our home organized and running smoothly, so we can focus on enjoying each other's company without getting bogged down by household tasks.

Who We're Looking For

We truly appreciate open dialogue, flexibility, and someone who takes initiative. The right candidate will be comfortable working independently and managing household systems while respecting our space, especially during busy workdays. We're seeking someone who can make an immediate impact-helping with household chores, organizing clutter, and ensuring that everything is in place when we return home. Most importantly, we need someone who can help us save time, reduce stress, and contribute to a calm, organized environment where we can all thrive. If you're a self-starter who is comfortable with a variety of tasks, values clear communication, and you're looking for a role where you can truly make a difference, we would love to hear from you!

Ideal Traits & Skills:

  • Warm, approachable, and professional with excellent communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain household systems and anticipate needs
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude and strong attention to detail
  • Calm and focused, able to handle tasks independently and ensure everything runs smoothly
  • Experience with household management and systems
  • Comfortable with occasional communication through text, call, and email
  • Ability to adapt to the family's evolving needs, especially as the children grow
  • Familiarity with managing meal prep and organizing household supplies is a plus

Key Responsibilities:

This role focuses on keeping the household running smoothly day to day, with a few core priorities that anchor the work. Other responsibilities support the overall flow of the home and are handled as time allows or on an as-needed basis. We care more about the right things getting done - not checking all the boxes.

Weekly Priorities:

  • Reset and tidy rooms daily (e.g. Load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, vacuum high traffic areas, maintain overall neatness)
  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists (especially the fridge)
  • Prepare a nightly meal for the family that is ready ~5pm
  • Clean kitchen post-prep and manage kitchen tidiness
  • Do one load of laundry daily, rotating through family clothing and towels/bedding

Those core daily and weekly responsibilities come first, but once handled, we welcome support in other areas based on time, energy, and household needs that week, including:

Household Management & Organization

  • Create and maintain household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, toys)
  • Conduct seasonal swaps (as kids size out of clothing)
  • Prepare and coordinate donation drop offs and pick ups, biannually
  • Support packing/unpacking for travel for kids
  • Be on site during service providers/vendors visits (e.g., handymen, cleaners, landscapers)

Inventory Management & Errands

  • Coordinate and manage household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping (as time permits)
  • Bringing packages in from the front door/porch

Meal Planning & Preparation

  • Prep, wash, and cut fruits and vegetables for kids' snacks
  • Batch bake snacks (i.e. muffins) for the kids
  • Pack school lunches (in the future when kids are in school)
  • Shop for groceries and meal-related items

Laundry & Linen Care

  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (e.g., clothing, bedding)
  • Manage care for hang-to-dry items
  • Manage linens: rotate bedding, refresh towels, restock essentials
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies

Vehicle Management

  • Vacuum car seats and car once per month

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Water outdoor garden
  • Shovel snow off path/driveway in the winter
  • Open to handling, servicing, and maintenance of hot tub
  • Load up and prepare future camper to get ready for use

Family Support & Child Assistance

  • Open to providing light supervision, playtime, or back-up childcare in the future
  • Open to prepping backpacks, clothing, or snacks for school in the future

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Tackle occasional deep cleans (fridge, oven, baseboards, etc.)
  • Maintain and refresh specific zones (e.g. kitchen, main floor)
  • Organize special projects: toy storage, gear rotation

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

  • Ad hoc guest room preparation and clean-up, as needed

How to Apply:

Please submit:
