Part Time Overnight Shift information

What is a part time overnight shift?

Part time overnight shift jobs are positions where employees work during nighttime hours, typically outside the standard 9-to-5 schedule, but for fewer hours than a full-time role. These shifts often run between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and can be found in industries like healthcare, security, hospitality, and manufacturing. Working part time overnight allows for flexible scheduling and is ideal for those needing to balance work with other commitments or who prefer working at night. However, these roles may require adjusting to a different sleep schedule and can sometimes come with overnight shift pay differentials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time overnight shift worker?

To thrive as a Part Time Overnight Shift Worker, you generally need reliability, time management skills, and the ability to work independently, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with time-tracking systems, safety protocols, and any job-specific software or equipment is typically required. Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for handling tasks and coordinating with colleagues during limited overlap hours. These skills and qualities are essential for maintaining productivity, ensuring safety, and supporting smooth operations throughout overnight shifts.

What are some common challenges faced during a part time overnight shift, and how can I prepare for them?

One of the most common challenges in part-time overnight shifts is managing fatigue and maintaining alertness throughout the night. Disrupted sleep patterns can also affect your overall well-being and daily life. To prepare, it's important to establish a consistent sleep schedule, create a restful sleep environment, and stay hydrated during your shift. Many overnight roles also require you to work independently or with a smaller team, so strong communication and self-motivation are essential. Employers often provide training and support, but planning ahead for sleep and self-care will help you succeed in this unique work environment.

Job description

The Overnight Security Guard helps support the overall safety and security of the hotel during overnight hours. This role includes patrolling the property, responding to guest and employee concerns, monitoring hotel activity, completing incident reports, and helping ensure the hotel remains secure, calm, and welcoming throughout the night.

The right person for this role will be observant, approachable, and steady. Hotel security is about being aware, professional, and prepared to respond when something needs attention.

What You’ll Do

  • Patrol and monitor hotel areas, including guest floors, entrances, stairwells, parking areas, service areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Maintain a visible, professional, and approachable presence throughout the property.
  • Respond to security-related calls, disturbances, medical situations, fire alarms, guest concerns, and other incidents according to hotel procedures.
  • Assist guests and team members with safety-related concerns, directions, escorts, and general support as needed.
  • Monitor security systems, access points, alarms, and property conditions during the overnight shift.
  • Complete accurate written reports for incidents, accidents, injuries, losses, property damage, or unusual activity.
  • Help secure hotel areas after business functions or events conclude.
  • Identify and report maintenance, cleaning, safety, or security concerns observed during patrols.
  • Communicate professionally with hotel departments, management, and local law enforcement when needed.
  • Provide basic first aid assistance when needed until medical professionals arrive.
  • Safely operate the hotel shuttle in accordance with company policies (when assigned).
  • Support hotel operations by assisting with guest service tasks as needed while maintaining a safe and secure environment.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, professional, and comfortable working independently overnight. We are especially interested in someone who brings calm judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to excellent guest service.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, public safety, corrections, military service, loss prevention, hotel operations, or a similar role is strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • CPR and first aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and stay alert during overnight hours.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with guests, team members, and outside responders.
  • Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment during challenging situations.
  • Reliable attendance, positive attitude, and commitment to providing excellent guest service.
  • Ability to walk, stand, patrol the property, use stairs, and respond throughout the hotel during the shift.

Qualified applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test and background check. The Madison Concourse Hotel is a drug-free workplace.

  • Cash advance option to access earned wages before payday
  • Up to 30% off hotel rooms at Great Wolf Resorts throughout the U.S. and Canada
