Summary

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - Automotive Technology who will be all-in on our mission and who provides high-quality, learner-centered instruction in Automotive Technology and related technical courses. Instruction may occur in classroom, laboratory, technology-supported, dual credit, or online environments and emphasizes hands-on learning that prepares students for careers in the automotive industry. Teaching responsibilities include delivering instruction, preparing course materials, maintaining subject matter expertise, evaluating student learning, and supporting student success while contributing to the mission and goals of Amarillo College.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or a related field.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Technology or a related field.
*Years of high-quality experience can substitute educational requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:Three (3) years of industry experience in automotive technology or a closely related field.
Preferred:Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:
Preferred: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician Certification, ASE G1, and ASE A-Series Certifications.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, and related courses as assigned.
  • Deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction using effective classroom, laboratory, and instructional technologies.
  • Prepare lesson plans, demonstrations, laboratory activities, and instructional materials aligned with approved course outcomes.
  • Utilize approved course syllabi and comply with institutional instructional standards.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, laboratory performance, and other assessment methods while providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and other required instructional documentation.
  • Teach day, evening, dual credit, online, technology-supported, and off-campus courses as assigned.
  • Foster a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that supports student success.
  • Meet with students before or after class, during office hours, electronically, or by appointment to provide academic support and guidance.
  • Encourage student participation, professionalism, safety, and ethical workplace practices.
  • Participate in course and curriculum development, review, assessment, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of automotive technologies, industry trends, and instructional best practices through professional development and industry engagement.
  • Attend required meetings, orientations, trainings, and other College activities.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, demonstrate automotive repair procedures, and travel between classrooms and laboratories. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and move automotive parts, tools, equipment, and instructional materials weighing up to fifty (50) pounds as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and other College events as required.
Work Environment: This position operates in classroom and shop environments. Routinely uses automotive equipment, diagnostic tools, instructional technology, computers, and standard office equipment. The work environment requires adherence to established safety procedures and may involve exposure to noise, automotive equipment, chemicals, and shop-related conditions.
