Job description

Definition Come join our team as a part-time Facilities Maintenance Worker II . Check out our video to see what it is like working for the City of Newport Beach. Currently there is one part-time vacancy in the Recreation and Senior Services (RSS) Department at the Marina Park Community and Sailing Center.

The RSS Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 11 facilities, 34 playgrounds, Sailing Center, 58 outdoor sports courts and sports field amenities throughout the Newport Beach park system. This position actively engages in the RSS maintenance program to ensure safe and well-maintained boats and paddle equipment for the use of the public. This position also provides support to the RSS Department's mission in offering quality recreational programs, events and services for people of all ages.

Selection Components: Application Evaluation: This recruitment will remain open on a continuous basis until filled. Applicants who apply after the first review are not guaranteed to be considered for the recruitment. Qualified applicants will be invited to an online exam.

Online Exam: The most qualified applicants will be invited to take an online exam. This exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 16, 2026. Top scoring applicants will be invited to a virtual interview.

Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for the week of March 23, 2026. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future part-time vacancies as they occur. Schedule: This position may work up to 20 hours or more per week Monday through Friday.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Six months of custodial experience is required. Education: Completion of formal or informal education at a level that provides the ability to read and write at a level required by the job. License or Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
