Facility: Avenir Behavioral Health Center
Department: Nursing
Shift: PRN/PT/FT NOC Shift Weekends
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
Avenir Behavioral Health Center is seeking compassionate, dedicated, and safety-minded Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our night shift team. In this role, you will provide high-quality nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, and therapeutic treatments for patients experiencing a wide range of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders.
As a NOC shift RN, you will maintain a safe, efficient treatment environment, collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team, and provide vital leadership and supervision to Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) on the unit.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Patient Assessment & Care: Complete comprehensive admission and ongoing nursing psychiatric assessments. Adequately assess pain, identify the need for specialized treatments, and continuously monitor patients for risk of danger to self or others.
  • Direct Patient Care: Perform ongoing observations of patient behavior and mental status. Respond to medical emergencies and lead crisis intervention or triage situations appropriately and calmly.
  • Medication Administration: Manage safe medication administration adhering to the seven (7) medication rights. Conduct First Dose Reviews for new orders and control access to medication rooms.
  • Shift Administration: Ensure continuous unit safety and compliance. Remain on-duty until subsequent shift coverage arrives, providing thorough verbal handoffs and conducting patient rounds.
  • Milieu & Team Leadership: Provide direct supervision to Behavioral Health Technicians and step into the Charge Nurse role when assigned.
  • Documentation: Maintain timely, legible, and thorough medical records, including nursing notes, treatment plans, and incident reports.

Position Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted Arizona State Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Certifications: Current CPI and BLS certifications (per-facility policy).
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience in a medical/surgical setting and one (1) year of experience in an inpatient behavioral healthcare setting is highly preferred.
  • Core Competencies: Strong clinical intuition, exceptional crisis intervention skills, professional communication, and the ability to function effectively under stressful situations.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
  • Environment: Inpatient behavioral health facility. Exposure to irregular/prolonged hours, blood-borne pathogens, and potential patient agitation or aggressive behaviors.
  • Physical Activity: This is an active role requiring walking (50%), standing (30%), sitting (20%), and occasional bending (20%). Ability to lift/carry up to 51 pounds during patient care.
