Job Description
The Second Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with organizing and conducting practices & competitions and performing other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Assistance and awareness of the academic success of student athletes is a priority for all coaches.
This individual works, cooperates, and communicates with the athletic department and College staff concerning all areas of program operations, including organization, equipment, and scheduling of practices; fulfills additional requirements such as attending practices and competitions determined by the Head Coach; adheres to NJCAA coaching principals as described annually in the NJCAA handbook; follows Harford Community College, conference, and NJCAA policies and procedures while supporting the Mission of the College; and performs other duties as assigned.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position
Required Education
A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 30 hours of college credits are required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Required Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of basketball experience, which may include a combination of in-game coaching experience at the high school, club/select, or collegiate level and/or professional playing or coaching experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sports strategies that allow excellence in coaching and instruction in practice and contests while serving as a positive example of a leader and role model.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates familiar with NJCAA and Maryland JUCO guidelines and policies.
  • Prior student athlete recruiting experience
