Job description

Reporting to the Guest Experience Manager, the Guest Experience Assistant Manager is responsible for day-to-day oversight of Museum floor staff including scheduling and providing breaks and coverage as well as facilitating department and safety training. The Assistant Manager also manages the guest experience by implementing and facilitating Museum programming, ensuring a safe Museum environment and contributing to the operations of the front desk, including general admissions and membership sales, as well as assisting with opening and closing the Museum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Open and close the Museum as assigned
  • Keep up-to-date on procedures and changes, and oversee all functions of the museum floor, including admissions
  • Manage Museum admissions during peak times
  • Assume timely and accurate fiscal responsibility for the front desk, including cash handling and controls, record keeping, data entry and accounting systems related to admissions and other sales transactions
  • Manage employee breaks and lunches and participate in the work rotation and coverage as needed
  • Act as first-aid responder in accordance with Museum emergency protocol standards
  • Facilitate Museum birthday parties

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee, mentor and be a role model for Museum floor staff, front desk staff, and volunteers in all aspects of their roles and responsibilities to help ensure a high-quality experience for all visitors
  • Train staff and volunteers on duties, customer service, sanitation and safety standards

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and participate in internal meetings
  • Orientate field trip groups, as needed
  • Support staff meetings to discuss Museum programs, initiatives, and daily special events as they may be scheduled
  • Proactively communicate and work with the Operations Team to ensure the cleanliness of the Museum
  • Proactively communicate with the Exhibits Team to ensure the safety and working condition of all exhibits
  • Maintain appropriate levels of consumables for all exhibits and work with Exhibits Team to replenish stock
  • Maintain appropriate levels of all First Aid supplies throughout the Museum and work with Operations Team to replenish stock
  • Perform other duties as assigned

THE IDEAL CONDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING

  • High school diploma
  • A minimum of 2 yearsโ€™ experience working with young children or in a customer service environment
  • Experience in a non-profit organization, preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills and proficiency in conflict resolution
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workload to meet business needs
  • Friendly demeanor and ability to work with individuals within all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency in office technology and software (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling customer and staff information
  • Familiarity with database management or Point-of-Sale system, preferred

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexibility with work schedule, as necessary, to support weekend scheduling and/or evening activities
