Description:Junior Museum Guide – Part-Time

Department: Programs
Location: Bronx, NY
Employment Type: Part-Time
Compensation: $18 per hour
Schedule: Part-time; hours vary based on program and operational needs. Saturday availability is required. Shifts may be scheduled during regular Museum operating hours. Additional hours may be available based on program needs and employee availability.

About the Bronx Children's Museum

At the Bronx Children's Museum, we nurture the wonder of childhood, fostering curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning through interactive STEAM experiences that celebrate the diverse cultures of the Bronx.

Position SummaryThe Junior Museum Guide supports the Museum's programs and visitor experience by engaging children and families in hands-on Arts and STEAM activities, storytimes, exhibits, and community programs.This is an entry-level, active, and hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with children, learning new skills, and creating welcoming experiences for diverse families and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Bring positive energy and engage children and families in hands-on Arts and STEAM activities, creative projects, and educational programs.
  • Assist with or lead age-appropriate activities such as storytimes and other daily programs.
  • Support exhibit and program setup, breakdown, and cleanup.
  • Organize and maintain program materials and storage areas.
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience for children and families.
  • Support Museum programs at community events, festivals and other outreach locations.
  • Represent the Bronx Children's Museum professionally when working with community partners and the public.
  • Follow Museum procedures related to safety, visitor experience, and working with children.
  • Work collaboratively with Museum staff and communicate program needs or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Take on additional responsibilities appropriate to the position as needed.

Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with children and families.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a busy, hands-on environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive experiences for children and families.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Bronx Children's Museum.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with children in a formal or informal educational, recreational, community, or youth program setting.
  • Experience with Arts, STEAM, museum, or community-based programming.
  • Customer service or visitor-facing experience.
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent children or inclusive learning environments.
  • Bilingual multilingual communication skills, particularly Spanish/English.

Schedule & Work Environment

This is a part-time position with hours based on program and operational needs. Saturday availability is required, as weekend programming is a core part of the Museum's operations.Work hours generally align with the Museum's regular public operating hours. Employees are required to remain on-site after closing (typically 5:00 p.m.) to complete assigned closing duties, including program cleanup, breakdown, and organization of materials. Additional hours may be available based on program needs and employee availability.This position is physically active and requires frequent movement throughout Museum and program spaces, including standing, walking, and assisting with program setup and breakdown. Travel to schools, community programs, festivals, and outreach events within the Bronx may be required.Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role, in accordance with applicable law.
