Can you do modeling as a part-time job?

Part-time modeling is common and allows individuals to work on a flexible schedule, often involving photoshoots, runway shows, or promotional events. It typically requires a portfolio, good communication skills, and sometimes specific physical requirements, but it can be balanced with other commitments. To thrive as a Part Time Model, you generally need a professional portfolio, strong posing ability, and an understanding of the modeling industry’s requirements. Familiarity with booking platforms, digital submission tools, and sometimes basic photo editing software is helpful. These skills and qualities ensure models can represent brands effectively, maintain professionalism, and secure repeat work in a competitive field.

What Does a Part-Time Model Do?

As a part-time model, your job is to participate in photo shoots and other types of modeling sessions as requested by your employer. While this may include walking down a runway or taking part in a modeling job for a print magazine, part-time models also work in art classes, motion capture studios, and similar areas that need extra bodies on hand. Many part-time models also manage a portfolio of work. Despite the part-time nature of this job, you may be asked to adjust your schedule on short notice to meet the needs of clients. Many part-time models specialize in specific areas, such as fitness modeling or body part modeling.

What are part time models?

Part time models are individuals who work in the modeling industry on a flexible, non-full-time basis. They participate in photoshoots, runway shows, promotional events, or commercial campaigns as their schedule allows, often balancing modeling with other jobs or studies. Part time models can work in various sectors such as fashion, commercial, or promotional modeling. This role is ideal for those who want to gain experience in modeling without committing to it as a full-time career. Agencies and clients often hire part time models for specific projects based on their availability and look.

Job description

Custodian (Part-Time) | Des Moines Prep

About Des Moines Prep

Des Moines Prep is a new growing public charter school in downtown Des Moines committed to achieving exceptional outcomes for students: where they own and drive their learning and love their school experience. Our model combines rigorous college preparatory academics and a robust student-centered approach to instruction. We believe students learn best when they are known well, challenged deeply, and supported fully.

Des Moines Prep opened in 2025 and serves grades 8–9, expanding to serve grades 7–12 in the coming years. Our school emphasizes agency, purpose, and preparation for the future, giving students opportunities to explore college and career pathways and pursue their ambitions in a supportive, close-knit environment.

About the Role: School Custodian (Part-Time)

Under the direct supervision of the school Principal, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that all areas of the school—including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and common spaces—are regularly cleaned and maintained to support a healthy and welcoming campus. The Custodian will perform routine cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and assist with event setup or special projects as needed. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in contributing to the overall learning environment.

Compensation and Hours

Salary is currently budgeted at $18-20 an hour, depending on experience. This is a part-time role and total hours would be 4 hours daily (20 hours weekly).

Des Moines Prep is interested in a part-time custodian that can commit to consistent AM hours or PM hours - availability will be discussed on a phone screen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow staff to foster a welcoming and well-maintained school environment.
  • Build positive relationships with students and contribute to a supportive school community.
  • Prioritize preventative maintenance and consistently follow safety protocols to ensure a secure campus.
  • Monitor the condition of school facilities and promptly report or address any safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Encourage student responsibility by modeling and supporting stewardship of shared spaces.
  • Conduct regular campus walkthroughs to maintain cleanliness and remove litter/debris.
  • Manage and dispose of trash properly, including transferring waste to designated dumpsters and maintaining cleanliness around waste areas.
  • Track custodial supply inventory and promptly communicate supply needs to supervisors.
  • Complete tasks as outlined by school leadership, which may include:
    • Cleaning windows, handrails, and surfaces
    • Sweeping, mopping, and dusting floors
    • Midday bathroom cleaning and trash removal
    • Maintaining clean and safe workspaces
    • Performing minor repairs and paint touch-ups
    • Shoveling snow and applying salt as needed
  • Provide cafeteria support during meal service or as directed by school leaders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support school operations and student well-being.

Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred

Ideal Candidate Skills and Experiences

  • A minimum of one year of custodial experience
  • Meet all physical demands of the position
  • Able to take direction
  • Work quickly and efficiently
  • Experience working with middle school youth or in a school setting strongly preferred
  • Ability to think outside the box and do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • Willingness to accept, implement, and grow from constructive feedback
  • A strong commitment and high expectations for cleanliness and organization

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use full range of motion to perform routine cleaning (bend, scoop, squat, kneel)
  • Ability to climbing stairs or ladders access to all levels
  • Ability to move equipment, appliances, open and close doors, etc.
  • Ability to reach above shoulders to stock and remove equipment, place trash in dumpsters, etc.
  • Ability to safely and successfully handle tools with cleaning
  • Ability to lift and carry (supplies, trash receptacles, ladders, etc.) of varying weights

Statement of Non-Discrimination

Opportunity Education is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws.
