Job description

Overview
Under the guidance of the Health and Wellness Director, the Lead Fitness Coach is responsible for onboarding fitness coaches to build positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers, and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service. The Lead Fitness Coach will ensure a safe, effective wellness environment to enhance the physical, mental, and spiritual health of all participants.
Reporting to the YAA Coordinator, the Lead Fitness Coach supports the successful delivery of Active Adult (age 50+) programs by creating a welcoming and engaging environment for members and participants. Assist with program operations, facilitate activities, build meaningful relationships, and provide exceptional customer service while promoting the YMCA mission and values.

Schedule
  • This part-time position is 20-25 hours per week.
  • Monday - Friday and some weekends depending on events.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Work to ensure that Fitness Coaches are consistently providing good customer service by implementing strong onboarding training, shadowing opportunities and timely refresher training
  • Maintain superior knowledge of branch and Association programs, services, and policies in order to deliver a transformational experience and increase future enrollment. Be available for questions and inquiries from staff, members and program participants
  • Welcome and engage Active Adult members and participants, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
  • Assist in the planning, setup, delivery, and cleanup of educational, social, recreational, and wellness programs.
  • Lead or facilitate designated activities, workshops, and events as assigned.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by answering questions, addressing concerns, and connecting participants with YMCA programs and services.
  • Build positive relationships with members by learning names, encouraging participation, and creating an inclusive environment
  • Assist with special events, outings, and community engagement opportunities for Active Adults (50+)
  • Promote YMCA membership and cross-promote branch programs and services that support healthy living and social connection.
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and provide guidance to volunteers during programs and events as assigned.
    Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Fitness background required
  • Minimum 18 years of age
    High School diploma or GED
  • Group Exercise or Personal Training Certification (preferred)
  • Experience working with older adults, volunteers, community programs, or in a customer-facing role preferred.
  • Monitor workout areas for potential hazards and properly record/track all maintenance issues
  • Implements operating plans to promote wellness orientations, group exercise classes, personal training and other programs to increase retention
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute
