JOB DESCRIPTION
KIDS MINISTRY ASSISTANT

JOB TITLE: Kids Ministry Assistant
REPORTS TO: Director of Family and Women’s Ministries
HOURS/WEEK: Part time – 29/week
FSLA DESIGNATION: Non-exempt
STAFF CATEGORY: Support Staff – Kids Ministry

SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position is primarily responsible for helping kids grow in their personal relationship with God and inspiring and equipping them to follow Jesus. This is accomplished by performing administrative duties for the ministry, coordinating and facilitating childcare for Illuminate Ministry events that offer childcare and walking alongside Illuminate families and volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to –
  • Oversee all onsite events requiring childcare.
  • Communicate with Ministries to schedule childcare services or volunteers to meet their event needs.
  • Prep all supplies for each event – check-in clipboards, check in stations, open/prep classrooms needed, then close/clean classrooms used.
  • Check in with volunteers and monitor hallways.
  • Plan and implement a structured plan during all childcare events.
  • Organize, manage, and support weekday volunteers (childcare, classroom cleaning, ect).
  • Maintain the social media presence of the Kids Ministry.
  • Assist with the planning, prepping and execution of special events (Easter family event, Easter services, VBS, Back to School Family Event, Christmas family event, Christmas Eve Services).
  • Work closely with the Kids ministry staff and volunteers, assisting with any needs that may arise.
  • Interact with parents, families and children to provide a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Help oversee logistics of all services on Sunday (classroom preparation, registration, check-in (opening amp; closing stations), classroom activities, etc)
  • Create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for guests, kids and their families ensuring areas are free of hazards and clutter free.
  • Help ensure that Kids Ministry volunteers adhere to the policies and procedures while in classrooms and on campus.
  • Maintain clean and organized rooms, storage areas and workspaces in kids areas.
  • Build relationships with kids and families.
  • Help effectively communicate with volunteers and parents regarding curriculum, promoting the vision and upcoming events.
  • Maintain volunteer training and safety procedures.
  • Participate in staff and departmental meetings.
  • Other related tasks as required.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
  • Supports and participates in the overall ministry and mission of Illuminate Community Church.
  • Attends required staff meetings and church events (including Easter and Christmas) as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the effectiveness of the ministry and staff team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Constant sitting, standing, moving and viewing of screens. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds or more.

WEEKLY NEEDS:

CLASSROOM CLEANING/ORGANIZING: 3-4 hours weekly
  • Tidy and organize all classrooms within the Kids Ministry spaces
  • Restock supplies and materials
  • Order/pick up needed supplies
  • Stock:
    • Check-in binders
    • Volunteer checklists
    • Wish list
    • File old check-in sheets
    • Monthly check and stock each classrooms first aid kit/evac kit
    • Stock and prep snacks for Sunday morning
CHILDCARE: 15 hours weekly (dates and time will fluctuate)
  • Schedule childcare services or volunteers to meet ministry needs
  • Coordinate with other ministry leads
  • Prep childcare providers/Volunteer check-in clipboards
  • Set up and break down check-in stations. Including new family clipboards
  • Open and prep rooms prior to use
  • Close and clean rooms after use
  • Check in children for childcare and monitor hall and classroom needs
  • Assist in rooms as needed
  • Help facilitate activities
Women’s Bible Study
Tuesdays 8:30am – 12:30 (every other week)
Wednesdays 8:30am-12:30pm
Thursdays 8:30am – 12:00pm

Tuesdays Together
Tuesday Nights 5:00pm – 7:30pm

Welcome Lunch
1st Sunday of each month until 1:30pm

SUNDAY MORNINGS: 6 hours weekly, 6:30am-12:30pm
  • Assist with opening classrooms and make sure rooms are clean, tidy, and fully stocked for Sunday morning
  • Greet families warmly and assist with check-in or hall monitoring
  • Assist with checking in volunteers
  • Attend one service
  • Make sure volunteers are set up for success with name tags and all needed materials
  • Assist with closing classrooms and collecting and filing nametags
MISC NEEDS
  • Weekly team meetings: Date and Time TBD 1-2 hours weekly
  • Monthly staff meeting: 1st Tuesday of the month 12pm-2pm
