How much do part time military engineering jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time military engineering in the United States is $31.55, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $37.98 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some unique challenges faced by part-time military engineers compared to their full-time counterparts?

Part-time military engineers often balance their engineering duties with civilian careers or studies, which can make it challenging to stay current with military-specific technologies and procedures. They may also have less frequent training opportunities, so adapting quickly during drills or deployments is essential. In addition, building strong rapport with team members who serve full-time can require extra effort due to limited interaction. However, this role provides valuable experience in leadership, technical problem-solving, and teamwork that can benefit both military and civilian career paths.

What is the difference between Part Time Military Engineering vs Part Time Civil Engineering?

Both roles require technical skills but differ in work environment and employer type, catering to different career interests within engineering fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Military Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Military Engineer, you typically need a background in engineering, problem-solving skills, and relevant military training or education. Familiarity with CAD software, GIS systems, and specialized military equipment or certifications such as security clearance are often required. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills help you excel in dynamic and sometimes high-pressure environments. These skills ensure effective technical support, mission readiness, and the safety and success of military operations.

What is part time military engineering?

Part time military engineering refers to engineering roles within the armed forces that are performed on a part-time basis, often by reservists or members of the National Guard. These engineers may work in civil, mechanical, electrical, or other engineering disciplines to support military infrastructure, logistics, or operations, but they do so while maintaining a civilian career or education. Part time military engineers typically undergo military training and participate in regular drills, and can be called upon for active duty during emergencies or deployments.
