Position Summary:
The Mechanical Designer/Drafter plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation of switchgear design and drafting requirements for Winn-Marion. Working closely with our electrical & mechanical designers and project management teams, the Designer/Drafter is responsible for creating detailed mechanical drawings and documentation that adhere to project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as Solidworks, EPLAN, AutoCAD or similar tools, with demonstrated experience in electrical design drafting.
  • Knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards applicable to construction projects.
  • Previous experience in switchgear design or drafting within the electrical industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, especially with Microsoft office and technical applications.
  • Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and negotiation skills.
  • Valid driver's license with good MVR.
  • Able to speak, write, and read the English language.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with designers and project managers to develop designs for construction projects.
  • Utilize Solidworks software to create accurate and detailed mechanical drawings, and diagrams based on project requirements and design specifications.
  • Ensure that designs comply with relevant NEC, IEEE, UL508A & 891 codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, incorporating necessary revisions and updates as needed.
  • Work closely with customers, designers, contractors, sales team, fabrication shop and other stakeholders to coordinate electrical design elements with overall project plans and specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including shop-drawings, bill of materials, equipment specifications, and as-built drawings.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of electrical designs to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality standards. Address any discrepancies or issues promptly to maintain project timelines and objectives.
  • Provide technical support to project teams during the construction phase, responding to inquiries, clarifying design intent, and assisting with resolution of shop fabrication issues.
  • Stay informed about advancements in electrical design technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the enhancement of design workflows and standards within the company.

Other Job Functions:
  • Effectively manages time, follows directions and completes work within specified time.
  • Complies with all company policies and OSHA rules while carrying out all work processes.
  • Successfully completes requested training classes and maintain all necessary safety certificates.
  • Follow instructions from manager.
  • Checks and responds to all company communications on all scheduled workdays, including voice mail, emails, and text messages. Makes sure that old voice mails are cleared regularly so that the mailbox does not get full.
  • Complies with all applicable Company safety requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:
  • Able to sit and work at computer keyboard for extended period.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities of copying, filing, faxing, and using the telephone.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Maintain regular and on-time attendance
