The part-time Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for conducting research into their field of expertise. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will utilize the skills and expertise granted to them by their education and experience to complete research projects in their field of expertise. Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications. Assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite.The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for conducting pharmacological studies in the research lab, including epilepsy and seizure models, and brain disease paradigms. This position is responsible for data compilation, analysis, interpretation and preparation of scientific manuscripts. The person is responsible for assisting other research staff in implementing experimental studies and supporting the neurological techniques and data analysis in the project.

Responsibilities

Epilepsy Neuroscience Research

  • Plan and perform pharmacology and epilepsy research experiments with advanced methods and techniques in the lab.

  • Develop approaches and scholarly activities including cutting-edge techniques to address translational questions in epilepsy pharmacology.

  • Development of neurosteroid treatments for epilepsy and OP pharmacology.

  • Design and perform experiments procedures involving epilepsy and seizure studies.

  • Organize and conduct studies of brain EEG studies and extended monitoring.

  • Design and execute pharmacological studies, PK and analytical studies in the lab.

  • Responsible for performing survival surgical operations relevant to the project and all tools.

  • Assist and train other members in the lab to execute the research projects.

  • Train students and research staff to perform research studies and compliance issues

Neuroscience Data and Analysis

  • Interpret and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques

  • Assist with the preparation of research literature during manuscript and grant submissions

  • Present data at domestic and international scientific meetings

General Lab Management

  • Lab compliance, ordering and inventory of lab materials for research projects.

  • Coordinate and maintain scientific supplies and equipment.

  • Prepare and maintain lab records and study protocols.

  • Communicate with coordinators at college and campus research offices.

Mentoring

  • May assist, mentor, and/or supervise student researchers and/or graduate students who are working on research related to the project

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with animal husbandry and special housing.

  • In vitro electrophysiology techniques such as patch clamping and brain slice preparation.

  • In vivo EEG techniques in experimental models

  • Immunohistochemistry experience with confocal imaging and 3-dimensional analysis of morphology of neurons and/or glia.

  • First author publications.

  • Experience with Multiclamp 200B and 700B type amplifiers or comparable, Axoclamp 900A amplifiers or comparable, and PClamp software or equivalent.
