Position
Renton Technical College is seeking part-time instructors for our Property Maintenance Program! This facutly member will assist students in gaining skills for entry level employment as assistants and possibly as technicians for property maintenance at apartment complexes. Faculty will instruct subjects applicable to painting, curb appeal, flooring installation, and drywall, electrical, plumbing and general repairs such as doors, countertops, appliances and windows, included are all aspects of safety/emergency producers/First Aid & CPR and use of hand tools, power tools, and various equipment. Work readiness, communication and construction/maintenance vocabulary are emphasized in the courses.
Reporting directly to the Dean Advanced Manufacturing, instruction will take place two nights per week. The 18-credit certificate program is delivered in one or two courses per quarter, over the span of 3 quarters. No summer classes are currently offered. A dedicated classroom and lab space are available, as are lab equipment appropriate for training. This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association, for additional information, please review the contract on our Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as needs arise within each department. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

• Demonstrating multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and creating an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the certificate program in property maintenance.
• Setup and maintain the lab environment for hands on demonstrations and practice.
• Administer health and safety measures in accordance with campus policies.
• Contribute to the development and updating of the curriculum.
• Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small group and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.
• Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain and submit accurate records of student progress and program reports.
• Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
• Administer and interpret college procedures; resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.
• Maintain office hours convenient to students.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated leadership or participating in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
• Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
• Associate's degree in a related trade preferred.
• At least (2) years' work experience in a related maintenance occupation (considered to be journey level work)
• Experience teaching or providing group training to employees.
• Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment and industrial first aid certificate and an industrial safety and hygiene certificate.
• Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff and the community.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Successful experience using tact, discretion and courtesy while interacting with all persons.
• Demonstrated attention to detail is required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
• Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

Terms of Employment
In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.
Candidates will be asked to provide documentation of unofficial transcripts of graduate coursework. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,090 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,640 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
Degree Stipend: Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.

Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only - benefits would begin on the first day of the working month after working 50% or more for two consecutive quarters).
Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workload* for two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the
Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIA) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIA) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.
*Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489.
