Maintenance Person (Part-Time)

St. Mark Catholic Parish and School, located in Southwest Ranches, Florida, is seeking a part-time Maintenance Person . This role is ideal for an energetic, hands-on individual who is eager to learn, take initiative, and grow while helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our parish and school community. The candidate must be supportive and respectful of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church and take pride in ensuring that our facilities reflect the dignity and excellence of our parish. The Maintenance Person performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Archdiocese of Miami.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., with on-call availability as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the maintenance of all parish buildings, conducting routine inspections of grounds, installations, and equipment to identify necessary repairs, maintenance, or replacements. Collaborate closely with the maintenance team.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all areas by removing litter and debris in accordance with proper disposal procedures.
  • Paint the interior and exterior areas of buildings as needed to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs to ensure facility functionality.
  • Pressure wash high-traffic areas regularly to uphold cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Lift and/or move boxes, furniture, and other items as needed to support facility operations.
  • Complete all tasks in alignment with established specifications, safety standards, best practices, and scheduled timelines.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of progress, including any delays or emerging maintenance concerns.
  • Effectively prioritize assignments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Monitor the condition and appearance of premises and equipment; report safety hazards, repair needs, or unusual circumstances to the maintenance supervisor. Support efforts to maintain and enhance the visual appeal of parish and school facilities as a reflection of their presence in the community.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures while performing work. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, use tools properly, and report hazards promptly. Utilize lockout/tagout procedures for equipment or vulnerable areas (e.g., electrical outlets) as required to ensure safety.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance, custodial, or related experience (5+ years preferred).
  • Trade school or technical training (building systems, HVAC, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong English communication skills (required) - must be able to clearly understand instructions, communicate with staff, and follow safety guidelines.
  • Energetic, self-motivated individual with a strong willingness to learn and take on new skills.
  • Good time management and ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and move up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to bend, climb stairs, and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and tools.
  • Safety-conscious with strong attention to detail.
  • Friendly, service-oriented attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Supportive of the mission and values of the Roman Catholic Church.
