Job description

SUMMARY

The Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA) is seeking a customer service-oriented, dependable, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Maintenance Technician/Handyman at the Roy Wilkins Recreation Center. This position is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, repair, and appearance of the Roy Wilkins Recreation Center and its associated spaces. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who enjoys performing general repairs, assembling furniture and equipment, completing preventative maintenance, and ensuring our facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for staff and visitors. Working closely with SQPA's Operations leadership, this individual will help develop and improve maintenance routines, perform custodial duties, identify facility issues before they become major problems and complete a variety of handyman tasks as needed.


Primary duties include the following: 

  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of SQPA's classrooms, gymnasium, activity rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, hallways, offices, and other facility spaces.
  • Complete basic handyman repairs, including minor carpentry, painting, drywall patching, hardware replacement, door and lock adjustments, fixture repairs, and other general maintenance tasks.
  • Assemble and install office furniture, shelving, whiteboards, bulletin boards, equipment, and other facility furnishings.
  • Identify maintenance concerns, troubleshoot issues, and complete minor repairs or coordinate larger repairs with vendors when necessary.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance inspections and document findings.
  • Assist with event setup, room configurations, and breakdowns.
  • Maintain SQPA's maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure they remain organized and in working condition.
  • Monitor and remove garbage and recycling throughout assigned work areas.
  • Order, organize, and stock maintenance and operating supplies.
  • Serve as the primary communication point for the maintenance team, primarily through email during your shift.
  • Safely operate commercial cleaning equipment, including floor machines, carpet extractors, wet/dry vacuums, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Follow all established safety procedures and organizational policies.


Other Expectations Include:

  • Occasional trips to offsite locations and vendors.
  • Ability to use equipment, including commercial vacuums, floor and carpet cleaners
  • Occasional residential painting projects
  • Familiarity with industrial cleaning practices and commercial cleaning standards.
  • Minimum of one year experience preferred.
  • History check is required.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Part-time in-person role that will be paid $17.50-$18.00 per hour (Opportunity for additional hours available)
  • Approximately 24 hours each week


Forecasted Hours:
Fri: 10am-6pm

Sat, Sun: 9am-close (5pm/6pm)
