Vacancy Information: There is currently one (1) projected vacancy. The current recruitment will remain open until filled.
Compensation:
Planning Commissioners receive a stipend of $100.00 for each meeting they attend, with a maximum of $100.00 per meeting. There are no benefits provided to Commissioners.

Job Summary:
The Planning Commission holds public hearings and is the decision-making body on precise plans of design, variances, conditional use permits and tentative tract and parcel maps. The Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council, making recommendations on zoning ordinances and map amendments, specific plan amendments and revisions to the General Plan which guide the growth of the City and create a better living environment.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
  • Prepare, adopt and recommend to the council a comprehensive long-term plan for the physical development of the city, which shall be known as the City of West Covina General Plan.
  • Prepare, adopt and recommend to the council plans based on the general plan and drafts of such regulations, programs and legislation as may, in its judgment, be required for the systematic execution of the general plan.
  • Act on the advisory agency of the council in connection with the administration of the State Map Act.
  • Hear and decide applications for variances, conditional use permits, tentative tract , parcel maps, and precise plans in accordance with adopted rules and procedures.
  • Investigate, hear and recommend to the city council plans for the improvement and beautification of the city, including such matters supplementary or (relating to) change of zoning regulation and district.
  • Aid and advise the city council on matters pertaining to the Art in Public Places requirements of the Municipal Code.
  • Perform all other duties as may be imposed by law or the city council.
