Part-Time Shop Associate

Fine Print | Dallas, TX, near Bishop Arts in Oak Cliff

Fine Print is an independent magazine shop and creative retail space centered around international and independent magazines, books, and printed matter with a focus on art, design, fashion, photography, architecture, and visual culture—where customers come to discover new ideas, spend time, meet people, and connect with creative culture.

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and self-directed Shop Associate who enjoys working with people and can confidently take ownership of the shop while working independently.

Schedule

  • Part-time
  • Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays on alternating weekends
  • Approximately 22 hours per scheduled weekend, or around 44 hours per month
  • Additional hours may be available through shift coverage, events, conferences, partnerships, pop-ups, book fairs, and other special programming
  • Consistent weekend availability is required

What You’ll Do

  • Welcome customers and create a friendly, engaging shop experience
  • Answer questions and help customers discover magazines, books, posters, and other products
  • Offer thoughtful recommendations and staff picks
  • Operate the Square point-of-sale system and process purchases
  • Open and close the shop independently after training
  • Take ownership of the shop and confidently manage day-to-day operations while working independently
  • Keep displays organized, stocked, and visually appealing
  • Help maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized environment throughout the day
  • Pull, pack, and prepare orders for shipping
  • Create social media content for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok
  • Photograph, document, and film magazines, products, customers, events, and the overall life and energy of the shop
  • Assist with events, pop-ups, partnerships, book fairs, conferences, and other special programming

We’re Looking for Someone Who Is

  • Warm, friendly, and genuinely enjoys interacting with people
  • Comfortable starting conversations, making customers feel welcome, and also allowing them space to browse
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to consistently honor scheduled weekends
  • Trustworthy and comfortable being responsible for the shop, merchandise, register, and keys
  • Comfortable working independently while confidently managing day-to-day responsibilities
  • Able to prioritize tasks and stay productive throughout the shift
  • Self-managing and able to recognize what needs to be done during slower periods
  • Observant, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Comfortable making sound day-to-day decisions
  • Curious and eager to engage and learn about the titles we carry, our customers, and the creative community we serve
  • Comfortable photographing, filming, and creating social media content
  • Interested in visual merchandising and creating thoughtful retail displays
  • Able to communicate professionally and ask for help or guidance when needed

This Role Is Great For Someone Who

  • Enjoys independent work and taking ownership of a space
  • Likes meeting and getting to know people
  • Works or studies within a creative field or industry
  • Is interested in art, design, fashion, photography, publishing, print, architecture, music, film, or visual culture
  • Enjoys staying connected to current culture, creative communities, and emerging talent
  • Wants meaningful part-time weekend work in a unique independent business
  • Appreciates magazines, books, printed matter, and thoughtfully curated retail spaces
  • Can balance customer engagement, operational responsibilities, and creative tasks

A Bonus, but Not Required

  • Previous retail, hospitality, gallery, bookstore, or customer-service experience
  • Previous management, key-holder, or independent retail experience
  • Experience opening and closing a shop or retail space
  • Familiarity with international or independent magazines
  • Knowledge of artists, designers, photographers, writers, musicians, filmmakers, and other creative professionals
  • Experience creating social media content for Instagram, TikTok, or similar platforms
  • Photography, video, styling, writing, or content-creation experience
  • Experience with Square or another point-of-sale system
  • Experience packing and preparing orders for shipping

You do not need to arrive knowing every magazine or creative name in the shop. What matters most is that you are curious, enjoy learning, and are excited to share what you discover with customers.
