Job description

Lower School Part-Time Music Teacher

To Begin August 2026


The Leffell School is a cutting-edge K–12 Jewish independent school serving more than 850 students on two campuses in Westchester County, NY, 30 minutes north of New York City. We are seeking a Part time Lower School Music Teacher, who will also provide small group instructional lessons and lead ensemble rehearsals for 5th grade students, to begin in August 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year.


Position Overview:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Part-Time General Music Teacher who will engage and inspire students, plan age‑appropriate lessons and unit goals that develop musicianship, ensemble skills, music literacy, and a lifelong love of music. This is an academic‑year, part‑time position (2 or 3 days per week with a consistent weekly schedule; specific days negotiable).


Responsibilities:

• General classroom music instruction

• Provide small‑group instrumental lessons and lead ensemble rehearsals for 5th‑grade students

• The teacher will organize and teach small‑group instrumental lessons and rehearsals aligned with their area of specialty

• Oversees special school assemblies and evening programs featuring several performance groups

• Ability to plan sequential, age‑appropriate music units that build musicianship and music literacy

• Demonstrated classroom management skills and a positive, encouraging teaching style


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• Experience teaching upper elementary students in general music classroom settings
