Position Overview:

A dockworker forklift operator is responsible for loading and unloading cargo from trucks using a forklift. They also move, stack, and organize pallets or containers in the warehouse or dock area as well as trucks. They follow safety rules and regulations, inspect and maintain the forklift, and report any damages or issues to the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

· Operate a forklift to load and unload cargo from various modes of transportation.

· Move, stack, and organize pallets or containers in the warehouse or dock area.

· Verify and record the quantity and condition of the cargo.

· Attach labels, tags, or marks to the cargo as required.

· Inspect and maintain the forklift and report any malfunctions or damages to the supervisor.

· Follow safety rules and regulations and wear protective equipment as needed.

· Assist other dockworkers with manual labor tasks as needed.

· At least 18 years of age.

· Valid forklift certification or prior forklift experience.

· Ability to coordinate and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Ability to accurately record relevant freight information on bill of lading or other documents.

· Basic math and reading skills.

· Flexibility to work in different shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
