Job Title: Bus Driver - Casual Wage
Anticipated Start Date: Ongoing

Schedule: Varies, maximum of 15-20 hours per week
Location: Transportation Services, 403 Wyoming Road
About the department / center: Transportation Services Department, responsible for transit, motor pool, and vehicle maintenance.
Role Description:

Under limited supervision provides transportation services to the University Community and/or the public, performing duties which require independent judgment in the application of procedures and methods related to University Transit operations. Operates University Transit vehicles in a safe, reliable, and professional manner; conducts pre-trip/post-trip inspections in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; provides housekeeping actions and other related assignments.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operates University Transit vehicles in a safe, reliable, and professional manner while providing scheduled service on campus bus routes, University routes, and/or special charter operations.
  • Determines the eligibility of passengers to utilize bus routes and/or services.
  • Conducts pre-trip/post trip inspections in accordance with Title 49 par 392.7 and applicable State driver's manual for safety and assurance of proper operating conditions prior to the start of each assignment.
  • Performs housekeeping and related assignments as required.
  • Documents clearly and concisely daily vehicle safety inspections, ridership and mileage information, and any unusual occurrences.
  • Maintains communications with dispatch center.
  • Recommends modifications, additions, or deletions to routes, schedules, procedures, and equipment which may improve the overall effectiveness of the University Transit system.
  • Participates in departmental training and certification.
  • Assists students, staff, and the public by providing information, directions, and assistance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or G.E.D.) with three years related work experience; or any equivalent combination of training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger and air-brake, and passenger endorsement required.
  • Applicant must not have had his/her driving privileges suspended or revoked within the last five years.
  • Applicant shall never have been convicted of the manufacture, delivery, possession, or possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance or a counterfeit controlled substance classified in Schedule I, II, III, IV, or V of Chapter 47 of Title 16 of this State or like offenses in any other jurisdiction.
  • Applicant shall never have been convicted of any felony in the last five years.
  • Applicant shall never have been convicted of any crime against a child.
  • Must pass a driving road test and meet the minimum standards for Department of Transportation.
