Job Title: Full Time or Part-Time Independent Living Specialist: Yankton, SD

Independent Living Choices is seeking a Full Time or Part-Time Independent Living Specialist for our Yankton Office.

Job Description: Independent Living Specialists work alongside people with disabilities to help them identify and access needed services.

About Independent Living Choices: Independent Living Choices is a 501c3 Nonprofit that provides services to people with disabilities who make independence their choice. One of only 2 Centers for Independent Living in the state of South Dakota, we provide services to 50 counties and all 9 Tribal Nations.

What it’s Like to Work Here: Many of our employees have been with Independent Living Choices for several years. That is because we prioritize work-life balance, provide our staff with a great deal of autonomy, provide great benefits, and never lose sight of our mission; provide services to people with disabilities who make independence their choice. Starting wage is between $17 -$19 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Benefits: If choosing to be Part-Time, PTO will be prorated based on the amount of hours worked per week. You'll have 11 paid holidays annually. If choosing to be Full-Time, you'll receive full benefits; Health, vision, dental, 401k, 160 hours of Paid Time Off annually with additional benefits available after the introductory period. Full-Time staff will also receive at least 9 paid holidays per year. An agency vehicle will be provided for both part-time and full-time staff for work-related travel.

A Day in the Life of an Independent Living Specialist: No two days as an Independent Living Specialist are the same. As an Independent Living Specialist, you'll spend time in the office, local communities, and in the homes of people with disabilities. You will provide direct services to participants, help them identify and access resources and services, make referrals, participate in outreach activities, facilitate peer support groups, transition classes, and more!

Qualifications to be an Independent Living Specialist: The right candidate will be self-motivated and passionate about helping others. Qualified candidates will excel in problem solving, verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills. A bachelor’s degree in human services, social work or a related field would be acceptable. An equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred, but not required. Applicants must possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
