Job Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
Scholastic Education Solutions Division is seeking to hire an energetic part-time Literacy Specialist (per diem) with deep knowledge of systematic and explicit instruction in foundational reading skills, and experience implementing structured literacy instruction. The primary role of the Literacy Specialist is to deliver literacy-based professional learning and reflective coaching to support district partners across the region. This role involves both virtual and in-person facilitation, product training, and coaching to ensure comprehensive support and engagement with our partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitate professional learning using adult learning methodologies to support structured literacy practices and product implementation.
  • Deliver professional learning, coach classroom teachers and instructional coaches on structured literacy practices and foundational reading skills.
  • Support classroom teachers and school leaders in building content knowledge and understanding their role in the implementation process.
  • Provide feedback as part of the coaching cycle to pinpoint progress areas and development opportunities.
  • Maintain highest degree of expertise in literacy instruction and Scholastic product knowledge.
  • Maintain professional relationships with districts.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with the team and partners.

Qualifications
HOW YOU CAN FIT
  • Master's Degree (or progress toward a degree) in education or a reading-related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience facilitating face-to-face professional learning in literacy and/or reading.
  • At least 3-5 years of teaching or instructional coaching experience.
  • Deep knowledge of systematic and explicit instruction in foundational reading skills and experience implementing structured literacy instruction.
  • In-depth understanding of language acquisition theories and the ability to apply these principles to instructional strategies.
  • Proficiency in implementing linguistically and culturally responsive teaching methodologies.
  • Experience teaching Multi-Lingual Learners or bilingual proficiency is a plus.
  • Current knowledge of college and career readiness standards.
  • Understanding of the human change process and adult learning theories.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible travel schedule.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using virtual presentation platforms such as Zoom and Teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation skills, professionalism, and creativity.
  • Valid driver's license.
