Part-Time = 12 Hours/Week
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under moderate supervision, provides coverage for 3 key Student Success Programs: Student Success Centers, 123 Read, and 123 Boost. The Student Success Floater will lead these programs as needed in cases of temporary absences/ vacancies. When there are no absences or vacancies on a given day, they will support the primary Student Success Center Coordinator as an additional educator in the room. When covering an absence or vacancy, they will oversee the operation of their current program, including coordinating tutors and assisting individuals or groups of students with academics. As needed, prepares analyses and reports on program usage. Provides onsite feedback to assist the system in researching and implementing new services.
This position is part-time and operates seasonally from September through May with work breaks that coincide with partner colleges and universities. Weekly schedule ranges from 10 to 15.75 hours per week, 2.5-3 hours daily that begin no earlier than 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Hours may vary during start-up and take-down of the programs. In cooperation and consultation with the Student Success Manager and Branch Services Librarian - Children's, the Student Success Floater facilitates and assures the smooth operation of their assigned program. This position may be extended to cover alternate programming or summer programming on a case-by-case basis.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include:
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, fractions etc.
  • Flexibility to effectively adapt to needs of assigned program each day.
  • Skill in assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work of assigned program each day.
  • Skill in guiding employees and volunteers with varying educational backgrounds and aptitudes.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Skill in providing high quality customer service, including assessing and resolving customer questions and needs while adhering to customer service guidelines and procedures.
  • Basic skill in the use of personal computer software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include any or all of the following: email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems or software used by CCPL.
  • Ability to provide comprehensive customer service, including delivery of accurate, prompt, and courteous assistance, both orally and in writing, to adults and children.
  • Ability to use Library resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement to resolve problems and make effective decisions.
  • Knowledge of basic strategies for teaching and supporting students across English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
As needed:
  • Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library's policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
  • Provides daily guidance of Cuyahoga County Public Library, Federal Work Study and Volunteer tutors; verifies and enters time records in software.
  • Directs activities of their assigned program. Determines student needs and appropriate activities. Guides tutors. Helps tutors deal with challenging students. When no program is assigned, they support their assigned site as an additional tutor.
  • Assists in maintaining student registration and usage statistics.
  • Assists in providing monthly and annual reports for library management on program highlights, statistics, research study and concerns.
  • Assists in regular communications with parents/guardians of youth attending the assigned program.
  • Requests supplies for assigned program.
  • Is the liaison between assigned program, branch supervision and the Youth Programming Department.
  • Distributes snacks to participants

Summary Minimum Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (e.g. combination of some college plus work experience as teacher's aide). Teacher Certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum one-year direct experience working with children in Grades Kindergarten through eighth in an educational setting.

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED
  • A criminal background check is required and pre-employment drug screens.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Position is physically comfortable, individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Occasionally lifts lightweight objects. Some use of computer.

  • Requires access to reliable transportation for travel to an assigned site each evening that will vary daily.
