Executive Social Media & Digital Content Intern
About the Organization
The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) is a state agency within the Executive Office of Economic Development and is responsible for protecting consumers through advocacy and education. OCABR works to ensure that the businesses our agencies regulate treat all Massachusetts consumers fairly. The Division of Banks ("DOB"), Division of Insurance ("DOI"), Division of Occupational Licensure ("DOL"), Division of Standards ("DOS"), and Department of Telecommunications and Cable ("DTC") all fall under the OCABR umbrella and help us to fulfill our critical mission of building better businesses and smarter consumers. About the Role
OCABR is seeking a creative, energetic, and highly organized Executive Social Media & Digital Content Intern to support the Undersecretary's digital communications and public engagement efforts. This paid part-time internship requires a commitment of approximately 8-15 hours per week.
This position is ideal for a student interested in social media, digital storytelling, public service, design, photography, and video production. Working closely with the communications team, the intern will create engaging, social-first content that showcases the Undersecretary's leadership, highlights key agency initiatives, and helps educate Massachusetts residents about consumer protection resources and programs.
The successful candidate will help tell the story behind the work of state government by producing timely, engaging content that makes public service more accessible, transparent, and relatable.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Executive Social Media
o Develop engaging social media content highlighting the Undersecretary's initiatives, public appearances, speeches, community outreach, and agency priorities.
o Capture photo and video content during meetings, press conferences, community events, site visits, and public engagements.
o Assist with real-time social media coverage during agency events and announcements.
o Draft engaging captions, scripts, and platform-specific messaging for executive social media channels.
• Digital Storytelling
o Produce short-form videos/reels for Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube.
o Identify compelling stories that showcase the impact of OCABR's work through the Undersecretary's leadership.
o Interview staff, partners, stakeholders, and community members to develop authentic, engaging digital content.
o Create behind-the-scenes content that provides the public with greater insight into state government and consumer protection initiatives.
• Creative Content Production
o Edit videos using Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.
o Design graphics, social media assets, and visual content using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
o Maintain an organized library of photos, videos, and digital assets for future communications.
• Social Media Innovation
o Monitor emerging social media trends, platform updates, and best practices.
o Recommend creative approaches for increasing engagement and expanding the reach of executive communications.
o Assist with measuring content performance and identifying opportunities to improve audience engagement.
• Collaboration
o Work closely with the Director of Communications and communications staff to ensure executive social media aligns with agency priorities and Commonwealth branding standards.
o Ensure all content meets accessibility requirements and follows Commonwealth communications guidelines.
o Provide additional creative support for agency events and special initiatives as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing Communications, Marketing, Graphic/Visual Design, Art Direction, Digital Media, Film Production, or a related field.
• Ability to provide a portfolio or work samples showcasing visual design, photography, videography, and/or digital content creation.
• Passion for social media, visual storytelling, and digital content creation.
• Experience producing short-form video content for social media platforms.
• Strong photography and videography skills.
• Experience editing videos using Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.
• Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Excellent writing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in government, public service, civic engagement, or consumer advocacy.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a communications team.
