What is a part time library job?

Part-time library jobs are roles within libraries that require employees to work fewer hours than a traditional full-time schedule, often ranging from 10 to 30 hours per week. These positions can include jobs such as library assistants, clerks, shelvers, or even part-time librarians. Responsibilities typically involve helping patrons, shelving books, checking materials in and out, and assisting with library programs. Part-time roles are ideal for students, retirees, or anyone seeking flexible working hours. Benefits and requirements for these jobs can vary depending on the library and location.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by part time library staff?

Part-time library staff are often responsible for assisting patrons with locating materials, checking items in and out, shelving books, and helping to maintain an organized, welcoming environment. A common challenge is balancing peak times when multiple patrons require assistance, especially during busy periods or special events. Additionally, part-time employees may need to quickly adapt to new technologies and library systems, as well as collaborate with full-time staff to ensure smooth daily operations. This role is a great opportunity to build customer service and organizational skills in a supportive, community-focused setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time library assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Library Assistant, you need organizational skills, attention to detail, and basic literacy and computer proficiency, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with library catalog systems (such as Koha or Sierra), digital archives, and office equipment is typically required. Strong customer service, communication skills, and a collaborative attitude help you engage effectively with patrons and team members. These abilities ensure efficient library operations and a positive experience for library users.

Job description

About Us:

Ladder Health is a virtual-first early intervention service for children (0-6) and their families in North Carolina. Ladder uses a novel and proprietary technology platform to screen children for developmental delays, recommend evaluation appointments with relevant providers, and facilitate virtual visits with licensed therapists on an ongoing basis. Families and caregivers can monitor their child's progress, message with their providers, and utilize an expansive library of caregiver-mediated interventions to help address therapy goals in between appointments. Ladder Health is actively seeking providers who can supplement and support our virtual-first clinical model with in-home services. Please note: Ladder Health is a multi-disciplinary offering for young children but is not a state affiliated program.

About You:

  • Experience working with children (0-6) and their caregivers
  • Up-to-date on evidence based practices and enthusiastic about use of technology to facilitate and augment care

  • Flexible schedule during business hours to allow for convenient appointment times for busy families
  • Actively licensed to practice Physical Therapy in North Carolina
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Bilingual professional capabilities (English & Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Provide home-based services to children and families across our catchment area (Asheville/Sylva)
  • Evaluate children in their natural environment and use clinical decision making to determine need for ongoing support. Thorough review of medical history, developmental concerns, and goals for seeking support.
  • Document clinically sound, personalized care plans and recommend therapy frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly)
  • Facilitate in-home therapy appointments with child and their caregiver(s), as indicated. Communicate clearly with caregivers and educate them on activities and exercises so they can work with their child at home
  • Maintain up-to-date patient records including appointment summaries, progress monitoring, and other documentation
  • Provide patient education on the value of virtual care and build family confidence and comfort with Ladder Health platform
  • Utilize the platform to recommend exercises/activities that caregivers can apply in between appointments to work toward therapy goals
  • Work to improve the platform including review of developmental screener and associated escalation logic, expansion of exercises library, and other enhancements
  • Responsive to the messaging portal to answer questions from users on a predetermined cadence
  • Collaborate with other clinicians to ensure smooth transition from in-person to virtual care, as indicated.

Benefits:

  • Chance to work at an innovative, early-stage digital health company, with room for growth and opportunities for advancement
  • Flexible hours with the ability to work part-time
  • Opportunity to mold a new care delivery model and help the access gap for children who need developmental services but are unable to receive them today
  • Hourly salary commensurate with experience
  • Reimbursement for documentation time and administrative tasks, as indicated
  • Mileage reimbursement
