The Town of Mooresville is looking for a Part-Time Library Associate - Youth Services to provide friendly, engaging customer service and support children, teens, parents, and caregivers in connecting with books, technology, programs, and other library resources. If you enjoy working with young people and creating welcoming spaces where children can learn, explore, and grow, we'd love to have you join our team.

About the Role The Part-Time Library Associate - Youth Services provides customer service and operational support to young library patrons and their families. The position also supports the daily operations of the Youth Services Department and helps maintain an organized, welcoming, and engaging environment for children and families. Work involves frequent interaction with children, teens, parents, caregivers, and the general public and requires patience, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with young people, has strong communication skills, and is comfortable helping patrons of varying ages and abilities. Work is performed under the supervision of a Librarian. Duties and Responsibilites Assist children, teens, parents, and caregivers with locating books, materials, programs, and other library resources Provide friendly and responsive customer service to Youth Services patrons Assist patrons with selecting age-appropriate books and other materials based on their interests and needs Shelve, straighten, and maintain children's and young adult materials according to the Dewey Decimal System and established library practices Assist children, teens, and caregivers with public access computers, the online library catalog, self-checkout stations, copiers, and other library technology Provide information and basic reference assistance to youth and families Explain and communicate library policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to patrons in a positive and appropriate manner Support Youth Services programs, activities, and special events as assigned Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for children, teens, and families Provide customer service and information to patrons in person and by telephone Apply established library practices and procedures while exercising appropriate judgment when assisting patrons Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED One (1) to three (3) years of clerical or customer service experience Experience working with the public, particularly children, teens, families, or caregivers Library experience preferred OR An equivalent combination of education and experience Special Requirements Availability to work nights and weekends is required Benefits This is a part-time, non-benefitted intermittent position, limited to 1000 hours per calendar year.
