Park Maintenance PT
Requirements
JOB SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the NR, Horticulture & Turf Manager, or designated supervisor, the Park Maintenance staff will perform day to day management and restoration of the district's green space. This part time position requires 90% field work in the out-of-doors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent.
โ€ข Experience in a wide variety of manual labor activities.
โ€ข Valid driver's license is required
โ€ข Must be licensed by the State of Illinois as a certified pesticide operator or become certified within 6 months of hiring for Natural Resources
โ€ข Must have a Chicago Wilderness burn certificate or become certified within 6 months of hiring for Natural Resources
โ€ข Must be able to carry 50 lbs. for 25 yards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
โ€ข A reasonable mechanical aptitude and interest in machinery and equipment used to maintain parks and natural areas.
โ€ข Ability to work in all weather conditions
โ€ข Ability to understand and follow both oral and written directions.
โ€ข Ability to use assorted hand tools such as, but not limited to, rakes, shovels, hand saws, pruners, etc.
โ€ข Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
โ€ข Ability to properly identify native and invasive woody and herbaceous species in natural areas
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties:
โ€ข Planting trees, shrubs, and plugs; installing seed
โ€ข Perform ecological restoration through brush tree, prescription burn and invasive management
โ€ข Mowing, edging, and trimming trails
โ€ข Complete and submit daily reports as directed
โ€ข Litter collection and removal
โ€ข Conduct vehicle & equipment inspections
โ€ข Tree felling & pruning
โ€ข Watering and weeding gardens & other plant material
โ€ข Work special events as directed
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
โ€ข Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
โ€ข Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program
โ€ข Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments
Marginal Duties:
โ€ข Conduct park inspections
โ€ข Remove snow from walks, drives & lots
โ€ข Power wash vehicles & equipment
โ€ข Attend all required safety programs and in-service trainings
โ€ข Work special events as directed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Walking: to pick up trash; mow and/or trim grass, spray herbicide
Standing: to watch over prescribed burns
Sitting: to drive or ride in a vehicle; or while mowing grass
Lifting: to lift and carry 50 lbs. for 25 yards while loading materials onto truck, felling trees, operating a chipper
Climbing: to climb ladder while trimming trees
Pulling: to remove weeds; to rake leaves or fields; to open doors
Pushing: to mow grass; to close doors
Stooping: to pick up litter
Seeing: to drive a vehicle or lawn mower; to obtain information from written materials
- May be exposed to all types of weather conditions
- May be exposed to poison ivy and biting or stinging insects
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
Must have the ability to read and write in English and organize materials. Ability to drive a vehicle, ATV and lawn mowing equipment. Must be able to relate to other people in a professional manner.
FLSA
This is a part time hourly, non-exempt position.
IMRF
This position qualifies for IMRF participation.
HOURS
Position is year-round and hours vary by the growing season, which is March - November. Job is for a maximum of 28 hours per week as scheduled by the NR, Horticulture & Turf Manager between the hours of 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and generally Monday through Friday, but can include special events and weekends. Workdays and hours may vary due to workload or weather.
NOTE: Daily work hours can change with little or no notice to accommodate the necessary workload that the park district requires.
