Summary
Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties. Utilizes hand and power tools and operates light vehicles. The position is within the Parks and Recreation works under the supervisory direction of the Foreman or Lead Worker
Job Location and Equipment Utilized:
Work is performed in an outdoor environment, with exposure to seasonal heat, cold, and extreme weather conditions. Exposure to traffic noises, traffic fumes and other traffic hazards. Equipment utilized includes mowers, line trimmers and other power tools.
Essential Functions
Includes but is not limited to such essential functions as listed below:
  • Performs Janitorial services in public park restrooms, cleaning floors and walls.
  • Picks up litter; empty waste receptacles; sweep and/or blow walkways and parking lots.
  • Digs ditches, holes and trenches and assists in installing and repairing irrigation systems under the direction of regular staff.
  • Weed and cultivate landscaped areas; water plants and lawns
  • Operates, cleans, and carries hand and power tools.
  • Paints buildings, and other objects.
  • Assists in Athletic Field set up and linings.
  • Cleans work areas and clears brush.
  • Performs routine maintenance on City vehicles.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
โ€ข Knowledge of the use and operation of hand and power tools.
โ€ข Ability to communicate effectively orally.
โ€ข Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Required Physical Traits:
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects at least 80 lbs
  • Ability to; climbing, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, reaching, crouching, turning/twisting, pushing and pulling, reaching overhead and above the shoulders, standing for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to speak and hear to exchange information.
  • Manual dexterity to operate small power equipment and hand tools.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old, knowledge of operation and maintenance of hand tools, knowledge of construction techniques and possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Prior experience in construction or landscaping is preferred.
