Job description

Lab Technicianย  Laboratory Operations Indianapolis, INย 

We are seeking a self-motivated Part-Timeย Lab Technicianย to join our Laboratory Operations team. In this role, you will prepare batches of samples by receiving and sorting urine and oral fluid specimens at your assigned workstation. The Lab Technicianย is responsible forย reading and scanning Chain of Custody (CoC) forms, ordering applicable tests in the system,ย aliquoting specimens into testing vialsย and applying barcoded labels to ensure samples are properly prepared for the testing process.ย 

Shift:ย Various shifts available (to be discussed during the interview process)ย 
Pay Rate:ย $16.50 per hourย 
Shift Differential:ย Additional $2.00/hour for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AMย 

Primary Responsibilitiesย 

  • Perform routine operations including opening sample bags, creating accessions and batches, ordering proper test(s), and applying barcode labels.ย 
  • Scan Chain of Custody (CoC) forms, ensuring proper orientation and clear, reproducible documents.ย 
  • Verify proper aliquot volume;ย it mayย beย requiredย to hand-pour aliquots using bulb pipettes.ย 
  • Identifyย and separate samples requiringย additionalย attention.ย 
  • Enter client and donor information, noting any deficiencies after Team Lead sign-off.ย 
  • Assistย with transporting batches to other departments and placing or retrieving samples from freezer storage whileย maintainingย proper chain of custody.ย 
  • Follow all laboratory policies and procedures and adhere to health and safety standards.ย 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.ย 

Qualificationsย 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)ย 
  • Experience working in a laboratory or high-volume production environment (preferred)ย 
  • Ability to interpret and follow complex written instructions (required)ย 
  • Strong attention to detail (required)ย 
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a team environment (required)ย 
  • Data entry skills (alpha and numeric keyboarding) (required)ย 
  • Strong hand-eye coordination (required)ย 
  • Ability to stand for extended periods,ย lift upย to 25ย lbs, bend, and carry as neededย
