Job description

Overview
Job Summary:
Acts as a collaborative member of the clinical team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Initiates patient care assessments, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens. Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family. Returns patient phone calls.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  1. Assesses problems/conditions requiring visit and accurately documents in medical records.
  2. Greets and screens patient for appropriate information, preparing for examination by provider.
  3. Assists provider in examination, treatment and referral of patient, preparing necessary paperwork, equipment, etc.
  4. Initiates testing ordered by provider, to include completion of paperwork and scheduling of appointments.
  5. Gives injections to patients of all ages.
  6. Assists with patient education.
  7. Maintains medical record entries and provides oversight of medical record content.
  8. Assists in referral management and tracking.
  9. Calls prescription information as necessary and under direction of provider.
  10. Maintains appropriate level of medical supplies and drugs, to include inventorying and ordering.
  11. Develops and maintains a useful documentation system for care that complies with legal, The Joint Commission and quality management requirements.
  12. Maintains files with referral slips and authorizations and makes appointments for consults while adhering to office scheduling policies.
  13. Schedules tests and referrals.
  14. Reconciliation of tests and labs ordered.
  15. Performs CLIA waived test/quality controls for test ordered in the office.
  16. Performs venipunctures/finger, heel sticks for lab tests ordered.

Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure
Experience: Minimum of two years experience as an LPN.

  2. Ability to prioritize goals and reallocate time as needed.
  3. Possess ability to communicate clearly.
  4. Ability to react calmly and effectively in all situations.

  10. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  12. Knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures.
