Class Description
Oversees the functions of the Fitness Lab within the Wellness Department. Ensuring that all individuals using the Fitness Lab's cardiovascular and weight equipment are taught proper lifting and spotting techniques. Verifying that only approved individuals use the facility.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in the field of health, physical education, kinesiology, wellness or related field required, Master's Degree preferred. Demonstrated experience in the use of fitness equipment in a fitness lab. Taught at least two college level courses in the field of health, physical education, kinesiology or wellness; experience working with a diverse student body. Preferred experience includes: coordination/monitoring of a fitness lab, evidence of continuous professional development and applicable certifications, such as: American Council on Exercise, National Strength and Conditioning Association, American College of Sports Medicine. Experience with student supervision or age appropriate groups, exercise development and prescription, and successful implementation of wellness initiatives.
POSITIONS ARE LOCATED ON THE ESSEX, CATONSVILLE, DUNDALK CAMPUSES
Class Specific Essential Duties
  1. Monitor all individuals within the facility by planning and directing physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance.
  2. Ensure proper usage of all equipment by the patrons.
  3. Conduct health history interviews and stratifying risk for cardiovascular disease with clients in order to determine the need for referral and identify contraindications for exercise.
  4. Provide training, direction, demonstration, encouragement, motivation, and nutritional advice to athletes and patrons.
  5. Educate patrons about fitness and health related topics to help them in adopting healthful behaviors that facilitate exercise program success.
  6. Evaluate and ensure that programs are safe, effective and appropriate for individuals who are healthy or have medical clearance to exercise.
  7. Monitor proper lifting, exercise techniques and spotting by the patrons.
  8. Maintain operation and efficiency of all equipment.
  9. Keep abreast of changing exercise techniques, technologies and philosophies relevant to fitness facility.
  10. Report any equipment failure to appropriate supervisor and ensure repairs are completed by industry certified technicians.
  11. Provide a welcoming, educational environment, which provides excellent customer service.
  12. Recognizing what is within the scope of practice and always referring clients to other healthcare professions when appropriate.
  13. Respond to patron's requests for information related to wellness programs and the fitness lab.
  14. Maintain wellness and fitness related schedules, records, and reports.
  15. Being prepared for emergency situations and responding appropriately when they occur.

The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
