The Applied Technologies Lab Assistant is a current Central Carolina Community College student who provides support to faculty and students within Applied Technologies laboratory environments. This position assists with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized lab environment while supporting instructors with preparation of materials, equipment, and instructional spaces used in hands-on technical training.
This role provides students with additional exposure to technical lab environments while supporting the daily operations of Applied Technologies programs.
Work Schedule
  • Up to 20 hours per week during the academic semester.
  • Work schedule will be arranged around the student's class schedule and lab needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a lab or shop environment.
  • Ability to lift materials up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely in technical lab environments that may include exposure to noise, machinery, and shop equipment.
Supervision
  • The Applied Technologies Lab Assistant reports to the assigned faculty member, Program Coordinator, or Department Chair within the Applied Technologies division.

Essential Duties
  • Assist faculty with preparation of materials, tools, and equipment prior to lab sessions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with cutting, preparing, or staging materials for student lab activities under faculty supervision.
  • Help organize and inventory lab supplies, materials, and consumables.
  • Support instructors with general lab setup and breakdown before and after classes.
  • Assist with maintaining safe lab environments by following all safety procedures and reporting any concerns to faculty or staff.
  • Help ensure lab spaces remain organized and ready for instructional use.
  • Perform other related lab support tasks including tutoring or learning support as assigned by faculty or program leadership.
  • Recognizing and respecting the variety of experiences and contributions represented by all of our students, employees, and community, the Applied Technologies Lab Assistant will encourage a learning environment in which everyone is supported and valued for their unique perspectives and experiences and will foster and promote the participation of all members of our diverse communities.

Minimum Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an Applied Technologies program at Central Carolina Community College, such as Welding, Industrial Systems, Construction, Electrical Systems, Machining, or a related field; completion of at least one semester of coursework preferred; or equivalent work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and shop/lab safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Reliable and responsible with a strong work ethic.
