Position Status: Part-Time

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (Opportunity to pick up additional hours)

Hourly Rate: $13.00

Location/Address: 1033 E Washington St Central, Indianapolis, IN 46202

Job Summary

The Janitor keeps the premises of the office building or other commercial or institutional buildings in clean and orderly conditions. Cleans office areas, classrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms/cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned work areas.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Cleans and disinfects the furniture and equipment.

  • Polishes metalwork.

  • Wipes down walls, ceilings, and woodwork.

  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.

  • Empties wastebaskets and empties and cleans ashtrays.

  • Transports trash and waste to the disposal area.

  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.

  • Communicates with Goodwill management and customers when appropriate and as needed.

  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments.

  • Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums or halls.

  • Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.

  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.

  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.

  • General Labor Skills - Is able to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions and deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

  • Safety Awareness - Recognizes the risks in activities, applies the right measures to control and manage those risks, and ensures all safety protocols are followed.

  • Janitorial Skills - Performs cleaning activities in specific areas by hand, such as removing dust from furniture, blinds, windowsills, etc. Sweeps and mops floors. Cleans and disinfects bathrooms with cleaning products. Is able to learn how to properly use janitorial tools and equipment including but not limited to dust cloths, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning chemical solutions.

  • Floor Cleaning Equipment Expertise -Is able to operate and control riding and walk behind scrubbers and other floor care equipment, in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, to clean carpets and scrub hard floors.

  • Moderate to Hard Physical Work - is regularly required to walk and frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Can manage frequent exposure to dust, dirt, debris, and dust particles in the air. Will be regularly exposed to slippery floors and the moving mechanical parts of floor cleaning equipment. The noise level is generally low.

  • Visual Acuity - Has close and distance vision abilities and is able to adjust focus.

  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.
