What is a part-time IV therapy job?

A part-time IV therapy job involves administering intravenous treatments, such as fluids, medications, or nutrients, to patients on a part-time schedule. Professionals in this role—often nurses or licensed medical personnel—work fewer hours than full-time staff but still provide essential patient care in hospitals, clinics, wellness centers, or at patients' homes. Responsibilities include preparing IV solutions, monitoring patients during infusions, and maintaining accurate medical records. Part-time positions offer flexibility and can be a good fit for those seeking work-life balance or supplementing their income.

What are the typical responsibilities and workflow for a part-time IV therapy nurse?

As a part-time IV therapy nurse, your main responsibilities will include preparing and administering IV infusions, monitoring patients for adverse reactions, and documenting treatment details. You’ll often collaborate closely with physicians, pharmacists, and other nursing staff to ensure safe and effective care. Since the role is part-time, you may work flexible shifts, often in clinics, outpatient centers, or sometimes in patients’ homes. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are important, as you’ll need to educate patients about their therapy and respond promptly to any concerns. You’ll also need to stay organized to manage multiple patients during each shift.
