Job description

Position Summary
The Salvation Army Northern Division Harbor Light Center Cook is responsible for preparing meals for
participants and employees in a commercial kitchen. The Cook also assists with meal planning.
Essential Functions
Cook, prepare, and store a variety of food using standardized safe food handling guidelines and
meeting health code. Meet special dietary needs of participants as directed (55%).
  • Provide meal service (breakfast, lunch, dinner) in an inviting manner to participants and staff (15%).
  • Clean and sanitize food service utensils, dishes, cookware, serveware, equipment, and areas

(10%).
  • Assist with meal planning utilizing ordered and donated food items, minimizing food waste (10%).
  • Assist with meal preparation and cooking for special events and meetings (10%).

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification.
  • One year of relevant experience required.
  • Must pass background checks.

Competencies
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of food service, nutritional guidelines, and best practices.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, scrubbing, food preparation, and cooking.
  • Ability to use PC and standard office equipment.

Working Conditions
  • Must be able to stand for the majority of shift with some walking.
  • Continuous bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, stooping, and frequently moving hands and arms.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person.
  • Not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
