What is a part-time interior designer?

Part time interior designers are professionals who work less than full-time hours to help clients plan, design, and decorate interior spaces. They may assist with selecting color schemes, furniture, lighting, and other decorative elements to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of homes or businesses. Part time interior designers often work flexible schedules, making this role ideal for those seeking work-life balance or additional income. Their duties may include client consultations, creating design plans, sourcing materials, and overseeing project installations within limited hours each week.

How does working as a part-time interior designer typically impact collaboration with clients and project teams?

Part-time interior designers often work with flexible schedules, which can influence how and when they collaborate with clients and other team members. Clear communication and effective time management are essential, as you may need to coordinate meetings or site visits around your limited availability. Many firms support remote collaboration tools, making it easier to contribute to design discussions and share updates even when not on-site. Staying organized and proactive about deadlines ensures smooth project progress and helps maintain strong professional relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time interior designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part-Time Interior Designer, you generally need a background in interior design or a related field, with skills in spatial planning, color theory, and design principles. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite, and sometimes certification from organizations like NCIDQ, is highly beneficial. Strong communication, creativity, and time management are key soft skills for understanding client needs and managing multiple projects efficiently. These abilities enable designers to deliver compelling, functional spaces that meet client expectations while working within time constraints.

Job description

Not just furniture. A better way to do it.
At Wenz Interiors, we're a guided interior solutions retailer in Green Bay, WI. Our mission is simple: help clients avoid costly design mistakes through honest guidance. We're not a big-box store, and we're not a stuffy design firm. We're something in between - and we're proud of it.
We're looking for a Sales Support Specialist to join our team - full-time or part-time, whichever fits your life right now. This is not a back-office desk job. It's an active, on-the-floor role where you'll be the right hand to our sales team. If you love helping people, have a natural eye for design, and thrive in a team-first environment, we'd love to talk.
What You'll Do
You're the engine that keeps our sales floor running smoothly. You'll be removing friction, keeping projects moving, and making sure every client feels taken care of - all while our sales team stays focused on the relationship.
  • Be the Right Hand: Provide real-time, on-the-floor support to our sales team during client interactions.
  • Keep Things Moving: Run to check stock, pull fabric samples, and build quotes in our system to keep projects moving forward.
  • Triage & Connect: Greet customers, sort their needs, and funnel project-based clients to the right team member.
  • Communicate: Manage inbound text and chat inquiries, helping current clients with updates and answering new customer questions.
  • Prepare for Success: Handle the behind-the-scenes preparation before and after client meetings so our sales team can focus on the relationship.

Requirements
Who You Are
We can teach you our products and our software. We can't teach attitude or instincts. Here's what we're looking for:
  • A Servant Heart: You genuinely love helping people. A team-first, customer-first attitude is your natural default.
  • Great Communication: You can easily understand what clients and salespeople need, and you communicate clearly and warmly.
  • An Eye for Style: You don't need a formal design degree, but you have enough design sense that you "just know" what looks good together.
  • Agility & Energy: This is an active role - a mix of sitting and standing, with a lot of movement between the showroom floor, the sample racks, the warehouse, and a desk. You like working that way.

No specific experience required. Retail, hospitality, service, front desk, healthcare - or none of the above. If you have furniture, design, or POS experience, great, we'd love to hear about it. It's not a requirement.
Benefits
What We Offer
  • Pay: $18-$23/hr base, set by what you can do rather than how long you've been doing it, plus bonuses for individual and store performance.
  • Schedule: Full-time or part-time - whatever fits, as long as it's at least three days a week and includes most Saturdays. We're open Monday-Saturday 10:00-6:00, and we are always closed on Sundays. Saturday is our busiest day, so we'd rather tell you that up front than surprise you later.
  • A Supportive Team: You will be joining a tight-knit team that values your contribution.
  • Meaningful Work: You aren't just selling things; you are helping people create homes they love.
