Job description

Job Description
The AHA Instructor role will work part time (24 hours weekly)-Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday -7:30am-4pm. This role will travel as needed (15%) to other Centra facilities to include Bedford, Farmville, and Gretna.
The AHA Instructor is responsible for instruction for American Heart Association (AHA) Courses. Completion of administrative tasks related to courses, scheduling courses, and teaching courses.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for ensuring all course content and participants follow all AHA Guidelines and Centra Training Center polices.
  • Collaborates with Training Center Coordinator daily.
  • Teaches course content related to AHA courses as the non-nursing subject matter expert.
  • Maintains and secures equipment for courses including ensuring equipment is stocked prior to course, is cleaned and restocked after course, and informing AHA Training Center Coordinator with equipment needs.
  • Collaborates with Course Coordinator to compile all paperwork for AHA Masterfile at completion of course
    Navigate educational technology, such as learning management system and simulation equipment.
  • Uses the best available evidence from AHA to guide teaching practices.
  • Keep up to date on knowledge related to AHA and required continuing education credits through the Virginia Office of EMS.
  • Document and keep records related to courses as required.
  • Assist in services to multiple nursing and ancillary departments across the organization related to AHA services, courses, and content.
  • Collaborates with team to complete required documentation and tasks associated with course coordination.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • BLS Instructor AND PALS or ACLS Instructor. May obtain within 8 weeks of employment.
  • General skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and standard computer software; interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and oral and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Health Sciences.
  • Nursing/Healthcare experience highly preferred.
  • BLS, ACLS, or PALS Instructor with active teaching experience for 2 years.
  • Previous AHA Course Director.

Travel Required
Travel is expected to be between 15% of the time.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The setting for this role will include office and healthcare settings. Exposure to controlled temperature environments, both hot and cold, is to be expected.
Workplace Exposure:
The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.

The expected physical workload is expected to be:
