Job description

Job: Nurse Practitioner -General Medical Examiner (C&P Exams)

Pay: $56.25 an Hour

Location: Stephenville, TX

Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Type: Part-Time | In-Person 3 days a week

This role performs Disability Assessments on Veterans. You will not treat, and you will not prescribe medication in this position. This is an in-person position.

General Summary of Position:

This position will review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans. The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically. Completed exams are sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award determinations. You will electronically document the exam findings required by the VA through the web portal based on questions presented in the disability benefits questionnaires and medical opinions requested by the Veterans Affairs Regional Office. The examiner does not make disability determinations. The United States Veterans Administration makes all disability determinations.

This role performs Disability Assessments on Veterans. You will not treat, and you will not prescribe medication in this position. This is an in-person position.

Responsibilities:

Read Order request(s) including any remarks, questions, directions, or requests for opinion; thorough review of medical history including service records and previous exams. This includes refuting previous medical opinions from previous examiners

Explain the exam process to the veteran and confirm the claimed conditions with the Veteran

Completes appropriate Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQ) and Medical Opinions (MO) through the Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) during the exam and provides necessary documentation to the VA with a full understanding of the Veteran's claimed contention(s)

Provide Compensation and Pension exams and in some cases order and interpret diagnostic tests including, but not limited to lab work, spirometry, and ECGs

Complete chart and submit exam within 24-48 hours after the exam is completed

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted State Nurse Practitioner (NP) license without limitations.
  • Proficiency in navigating EMR platforms, web portals, and standard computer applications.
  • Strong clinical analysis, documentation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven track record of meeting documentation deadlines.
  • Compassionate, professional bedside manner dedicated to serving Veterans.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in clinical settings

Prior VA or C&P experience
