Job description

Join the UPMC Corporate Legal Team as a Temporary Paralegal Intermediate (Immigration)! We're seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to support our Legal Department at the US Steel Tower.

This part-time temporary position offers a Monday through Friday schedule during standard daytime business hours, with up to three workdays per week. The role is primarily onsite, with the opportunity for hybrid flexibility after the completion of training.

The assignment will last up to six months, providing valuable experience in a dynamic corporate legal environment. Under direct supervision, applies knowledge of employment-based immigration law to provide legal support service to immigration law function. Prepares immigration forms and documents, communicates with employees and prospective employees to gather and advise on immigration law process.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with legal research and analysis and interprets findings at a basic level.

  • Completes simple to moderately complex legal filings.

  • Develops and maintains a basic understanding of internal processes and procedures.

  • Obtains legal documents and information from governmental agencies as required on behalf of UPMC hospitals and entities.

  • Performs legal reach utilizing both local and electronic research tools.

  • Provides assistance to the attorneys within the UPMC Legal Department for legal research.

  • Responds to third-party subpoenas seeking protected health information on an as needed basis.

  • Responds to third-party subpoenas, discovery requests, court orders and other requests seeking medical, personnel, payroll and business records.

  • High School and five years of experience as a legal assistant preferred
    • OR associate's degree and three years of experience as a legal assistant preferred
    • OR Paralegal certification and three years of experience as a legal assistant preferred
    • OR bachelor's degree and two years of experience as a legal assistant preferred
