Position Summary:
Arkansas State University - Mountain Home (ASUMH) is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor in Mechatronics to provide classroom and laboratory instruction in support of the college's Mechatronics programs. The successful candidate will prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing, industrial maintenance, automation, and robotics by delivering engaging, hands-on instruction that reflects current industry practices and workforce needs.
Adjunct faculty are responsible for creating a positive learning environment, promoting student success, maintaining laboratory safety, and supporting the mission of ASUMH through high quality instruction.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Teach assigned lecture and laboratory courses in mechatronics and laboratory courses in mechatronics and advanced manufacturing.
  • Provide instruction in one or more of the following areas:
    • AC/DC electrical systems
    • Industrial electrical troubleshooting
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
    • Industrial automation and controls
    • Robotics and robotic programming
    • Hydraulics and pneumatics
    • Industrial mechanical systems
    • Sensors, actuators, and control devices
    • Motor controls and variable frequency drives
    • Computer Aided Design
    • Industrial Safety, OSHA standards, and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans, laboratory exercises and assessments that support course learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records in accordance with university policies.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrate the proper use of equipment, tools, instrumentation, and testing devices.
  • Ensure students follow established safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with students and respond promptly to questions regarding coursework and academic progress.

• Thorough knowledge of industrial automation, mechatronics, and advanced manufacturing systems.
• Ability to diagnose and demonstrated electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
• Commitment to safe laboratory operations and industry best practices.
• Ability to integrate hands-on learning with classroom instruction.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively teach students with varying levels of technical knowledge.
General Days/Hours:
Work is performed in both classroom and industrial laboratory settings. The instructor must adhere to all university safety policies and OSHA standards while modeling safe work practices and proper equipment use.
Other:
• regular office hours or student consultation times as required for adjunct faculty
• Participate in departmental meetings, advisory committee activities, curriculum review, and professional
development opportunities as requested.
• Stay current with developments in industrial automation, manufacturing technology, and instructional
best practices.
• Perform other instructional duties as assigned by the Program Director or Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will possess an associate degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Automation, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a closely related technical field.
A minimum of three years of recent industry experience in industrial maintenance, automation, manufacturing, robotics, electrical systems, or mechatronics. With demonstrated experienced in industrial electrical systems, PLC programming, and troubleshooting, mechanical systems, and industrial safety.
